When I opened the door of the rented house, both my parents stood up from their seat. ''Were you waiting for me?'' I asked, slipping off my Vans.

They both glared at me, making my smug smile drop. ''Are you serious? Please don't tell me you forgot.''

I frowned, not understanding what she meant. ''What did  I forgot?''

A sigh left my mother's lips. ''No words can explain my disappointment right now,'' she said. ''You promised you'd be there for our Christmas eve dinner, Luke. And you weren't. Instead of being with your family, you were out God knows where and didn't bother to inform us you wouldn't be there for dinner. Your dad and I waited and waited, making up excuses that you were probably just a little late. After half an hour, we decided to eat without you.''

The Christmas eve dinner. Fuck. I can't believe I forgot about this... My mum's never gonna forgive me.

''I am here, now.''

''Five hours later! Do you have an idea what time it is, Lucas?'' added my father. I bite my lip, unsure if I should reply. ''Where were you?''

''At the beach.''

''The beach? What were you doing there so late at night? Doesn't it close at four?''

Yeah it does but Ashton and I weren't in the water. We were simply on the beach, looking at the sunset and kissing. I still can't believe that happened. I'm still feeling giddy just thinking about it. Oh no, I sound like a girl...

Plus, Ashton's family own the place.

''Yeah but-''

''What were you doing on a closed beach? You could've been arrested, Luke. Since where are you so careless and incautious. It's like the change of weather went to your head.''

I looked down at my father's words. ''I'm sorry.''

''Cut the apologizes. Your mother and I are going to sleep, if you're hungry, there's left over from dinner on the counter. Good night.''

''Bit it's gonna be cold and all gross.''

''That's what you get for missing dinner and coming home late.''

I didn't bother eating dinner because who eats cold food? Instead, I tooks a shower and went to bed, snuggling in my covers as I looked at the ocean from my bed. My hair were still wet and droplets were falling here and there but I didn't care. My parents are mad at me and I don't like it. I hate fighting with my parents.

After a few minutes of looking at the dreamy but now dark landscape, I took my phone and speed-dialed the only person I knew that would understand me.

''Hello? Better have a good reason to call me at ass O'clock in the morning, Hemmings,'' grumbled a sleepy Miranda.

''Sorry for bothering you, I didn't know what time it is in in New York. I kinda forgot about timezone for a moment,'' I apologized briefly, feeling a little selfish for not thinking before calling.

''It's okay, Blondie. Why are you calling me. Isn't it late in Australia right now?'' She yawned, making me feel bad. It's Christmas holiday, it's not nice to wake people on their rare off days.

I nodded, checking the time on my phone's screen quickly. ''Yeah, it's eleven-thirty.''

''It's Christmas eve!'' she exclaimed.

''It's almost over here. Nearly Christmas day.''

''Why are you calling me? I'm sure it's not to wish me an early merry Christmas.''
