''Wakey wakey!'' Ashton shook my shoulder, trying to wake me up as I walked to the beach. Ashton had run to me when he saw me and is now pushing me toward the sand.

''I'm tired,'' I whined, rubbing my still sleepy eyes.

''You'll sleep later, you weak little American,'' he joked, slapping my butt playfully and making my eyes grow wide.

This did not happen.

I was definitely woken up after that. Ashton took me to the beach shop and we went to get my surfboard and wet-suit. It opens at ten but Ashton knows the lady who works there so she let us in and got my stuff. We both changed on the beach since we were alone and both guys - not that we need to be naked under a wet-suit - but these tiny swimsuit are embarrassing..  I'm not ashamed of my body but when I'm in front of Ashton's toned and fit body, my self esteem easily lowers.

''Come here, Luke. You're doing this the wrong way,'' chuckled the curly haired guy, helping me to put on my wet-suit. ''It needs to be pulled high up your calves and have space around the crotch area or else you'll rip it or have sore shoulders. The most fabric have to be pulled at the waist so you can have more room around your shoulders. Yours are quite broad, it'll be better anyway.''

Ashton helped me with the wet suit and I tried to not get hard as his hands were everywhere on me - that'd be really embarrassing because a wet suit is not very roomy. Once everything was correctly put on, he zipped the back for me.

He handed the the leash who is attached to my surfboard. ''Tie this around your ankle, you don't want to loose your board or get lost under the water is you hit your head when you fall or something.

''Let's go now.''

''Aren't we supposed to warm up before going in the water?'' I asked. ''Or practice on the sand before going in the water?''

''Remind me who's the teacher?''

''You.''

''Follow my rules then. We're going in the water, Blondie.''

''Hey, don't call me that!''

He ignored me and walked to the water, me trailing behind. He stopped when we were at a decent height of water and told me to put my board on the water so we can start.

''Firstly, lie on the board. Lie belly-down on the board so that your body is lined up straight down the middle of the board. You should have a couple of inches between your feet and the back end of the board,'' said Ashton standing beside me as I tried to get on the surfboard.

I did as told and laid flat on the board as Ashton was holding the board so I wouldn't get taken away by the waves and to steady the thing.

''Now, paddle. From the belly-down position, practice a paddling motion with both arms to get a sense of the muscles that you will be working, and the perspective you will have from the board.''

I was relieved we were alone on the beach because I bet I look ridiculous right now, paddling on place.

''Learn to pop up. Getting up from the prone position is usually accomplished with a technique called “popping up.” The pop up is a vital element of surfing, but it takes a bit of practice to get the hang of. While lying on the board, bring your hands up from the sides and grab one side edge of the board near your chest with each hand. In one quick motion, push your body up with your arms and tuck your feet up and under, to about where your waist used to be. Let one foot stand in front of the other. Depending on which foot comes naturally in front, you'll be either a "regular" or "goofyfoot." Regular means that your left foot is in front, goofy foot means your right foot leads. It is sometimes easier for beginners to tuck their legs onto the board slowly, and then stand up quickly. Feel free to do this until you become more confident. Maintain balance. Once you've popped up, keep your knees well bent, your arms loose and extended, and your torso leaned forward to lower your center of gravity.''
