''You need to start packing your bags, we're leaving in three days, Luke.''

''I can't. I have to go to the hospital and see if Ashton's awake,'' I replied.

''You went yesterday and the doctor said they don't know when he'll wake up. It can take two days but it can also take two years.''

''I know.. That's why I need to go, mum. Maybe he's awake.''

''I'm sure someone would've tell you if he was.''

''No. I'm his only friend, no one other than his family visit him at the hospital. He needs me, mum. Please, let me go. I'll start packing tonight,'' I promised.

She sighed and gave in. ''Don't stay too late,'' she warned.

I walked to the hospital, hoping Ashton would be awake by now but was swiftly disapointed when the boy's parents were still sitting in the waiting room, speaking to a doctor. And seeing the look on Anna's face, her son was still in a coma.

I didn't want to interupt so I sat a few seats away from them. They were saying Ashton had a movemented night. His heart fell once during he was rushed in surgery for internal bleeding. They quickly got him back on track though. Thanks God.

''Morning, Luke,'' said Anna as she saw me. ''Did you had a great sleep, Sweetie?''

I shrugged. ''It was alright, I guess.''

''He.. He had a rough night, you know...'' Anna bite her lip. ''Ashton's a strong boy, I know he'll make it out alive but after what the doctor told me, I'm a little worried.''

I turned to the woman, putting a hand on her arm. ''Don't let bad thoughts invade you. We have to be positive and stay optimistic.''

''You could've stayed home if you wanted, Luke. I see you getting sadder every time you come here and see him in this.. state. I understand it's heartbreaking but you don't have to waste the last of your holidays in this dirty hospital, waiting for my son to wake up from his coma. I'm not forcing you here.''

''I came here on my own. I-I love Ashton with all my heart and I wish he could wake up before I leave. We had plans, lots of plans before I go back to New York but everything is cancelled now. He said he had plenty places he wanted to show me, things to do together but mostly, surf at least once together. He taught me how to surf but we've never surfed together. He said we'd do it on my last day.. I'm affraid it won't happen.''

''I'll take you on your own words, don't be negative. He might not be able to surf with you before you leave but I'm sure he'd like to hang out with you once he wakes up.''

I smiled weakly. She's right, there's still three days left before I leave the Gold Coast. Ashton might wake up during those days. And if he doesn't..

I spent the day at the hospital, waiting with Ashton's parents - mostly his mum, his dad left in the middle of the after-noon due to work. The doctor came every few hours to inform us of Ashton's state. He said he is stable and that nothing changed - which is good.

The next morning, my mum didn't want me to go back to the hospital. She said we'd do one last familial activity before leaving and she chose this morning. We went biking since her and dad wanted to see some beautiful scenery from the Gold Coast and take picture for memories but I think it's mostly to brag at work. But that's my opinion.

I was forced to turn off my phone and leave it in my room. As soon as I came back from the bike ride, I sprinted to my room, searching for the small device.
