bully ~ noun : someone who unfairly uses their size and strength to hurt or frighten others ~ verb : to act like a bully
We got back to Indiana on the Saturday, November 1st. It was now November 3rd and it was beginning to feel like Winter.
Light snow had fallen over night and more was due in the next week. Louis drove Liam and I to school, like most cold mornings.
"I'm liking your hair today, Kriss," Liam complimented. I had done my 'hair' in a quick braid that frankly looked quite messy. I smiled at Liam in return.
We pulled up to the school gates and Louis parked 'Cheryl'. We walked into the school building together and got to our lockers a few minutes later.
I kept quiet in the mornings as I wasn't a morning person and I was a little sick. I had been sneezing since we got home from Florida and I had persuaded my mom to let me stay in bed all yesterday. Today though, she made me go to school and catch up on assignments as I'd be missing a couple hours anyway for radiation.
"What time are you leaving class today?" Louis asked.
"Two," I answered plainly.
"Wish I could get out early. I've got double maths at two," Louis mentioned, but I doubt he'd actually want to get out of class for cancer treatment.
Class was okay. The thing about Mondays was that Liam and Louis weren't in any of my classes so I had to deal without them until lunch.
Just after lunch as I was walking to the cafeteria, I held a hand on my head. Suddenly, the hand ripped off my wig and threw it across the floor. My hands raced to my bald head. I tried to say something, but felt too weak. Then a body flung me into the lockers.
"Baldy ."
"Creep."
"Bitch."
When I got up and found my wig I ran into the girl's restroom and rushed into a stall, fixing my wig back on my head without anybody looking at me. Tears streamed down my face and I realised I was crying. I wiped my eyes violently and came out of the stall and shook off the situation. I needed to be strong. Those people were bullies. I hadn't done anything wrong.
As I came out of the restroom, people were crowding around the middle of the hall. I wondered what was going on.
"Louis stop!"
"Liam, get off him!"
I hurried as fast as I could into the circle and pushed my way to the front. Liam and Louis were almost on top of two other male students in the school. I grabbed Liam's arm and pulled him off the boy who I knew as Jared.
"Liam, what are you doing?"
"We saw what they did to you," Liam explained. Oh. "They pulled off your hair, Kriss. That's mean."
I watched a teacher pull Louis off the other guy, Harry, just after Lou had started punching Harry. Jared and Harry stood up and brushed themselves off. Louis was being held against the lockers by Mr. Finch, the drama teacher.
"All of you," Mr. Finch directed his eyes at Liam and I, then Jared and Harry and finally to Louis, "to the principal's office. Now!" Mr. Finch hollered. "Everybody else, get out of the hallway. Get to the cafeteria, stat, go!"
Liam took my hand and dragged me along with them to the principal's office.
"Kristina, are you okay?" Mr. Finch asked.
"Ummm..." I trailed off.
When the five of us got to the office we were told to sit on a uncomfortable bench. I was sandwiched between Liam and Harry. I shook with fear incase Harry grabbed my wig again.
