sunset ~ noun : the setting of the sun I the evening

The next day after school, Liam and I walked home to his house (Louis was at baseball practice) in which we were greeted by his mom, Karen. She made us lunch and asked how I was before Liam and I disappeared for the evening.

We talked in his converted attic/second bedroom for a few hours and he brought up 'The Bucket List'.

"What's number two on the list?" He asked smiling.

"Umm..." I tried to remember off hand but had to reach my hand into my backpack, find the piece of crumpled paper and unwad it. "Oh! Watch the sunset. That sounds really sad but I've never seen the sunset before..." I trailed off.

"No, I like it. I've seen the sunset millions of times. I know just the spot too!" Liam announced playfully.

"Great! What time does the sun set today?" I asked. Liam turned to his computer and opened it. I heard the keys murmur a bit and then his eyes dilated.

"Six-forty-three." He read. I expected sometime near then anyways as it was early October.

"Cool. How long to we have?"

"Bout an hour." Liam informed me.

"Okay. Where's this great spot you know?" I asked.

"Not far. It's up Connolly Hill. We could walk if you want," Liam suggested.

"Sure," I agreed. "Can I borrow a hoodie?" I asked, feeling the cold suddenly.

"Yeah, no prob." Liam passed me one of his sweaters and I pulled it on over my head. It smelled like him. He smelled so good.

That sounded creepy.

Liam and I cantered down the stairs to the living room and told his parents, Karen and Geoff, that we'd be back in about an hour and they said be careful and all that parenty stuff that parents have to do. Then, Liam and I set off into the park, where he had guaranteed an amazing view of the sunset.

Once we got to the park, it was ten past six. Liam offered to buy me a hotdog and I allowed him to as I was starving, even though I'd eaten just over an hour ago. Liam then took me to the 'perfect spot'. It was up what we called Dragonfly Hill. We had called it that even when we were little as the bottom of the mound was infested with dragonflies. There was a clearing at the top of the hill where from you could see the whole park, including the sun go down over the central Indianapolis skyscrapers.

Liam and I rambled on about the memories we had made in this very park and had some laughs and some moments close to tears. Time went fast and suddenly it was six-forty.

Ready to watch?" Liam asked, wrapping his arm around my shoulder.

"Uh huh." I smiled, leaning my head onto Liam's right shoulder.

Liam and I watched the sunset from behind the tall buildings in the distance and finally turned hot red and set completely behind the horizon. It was beautiful. I may have shed a tear, but wiped it away before Liam, or anyone, could notice. After a view moments of lying in the grass, Liam intertwined out fingers and squeezed my hand.

"Ready to go?" He asked, smiling widely at me.

"Just a minute," I whispered, putting my hand to his chest, squeezing his hand back. I tilted my head back a bit more and watched the clouds twisting around each other. They were coloured orange and purple and there was sparkles in between them. I loved the sight and wanted to stay forever but beyond the clouds was darkness and I knew it was getting late.

"Kay, I'm ready," I whispered to Liam and sat up.

"Alright." He said soothingly. Liam squeezed my hand again and pulled me off the ground before burying me in a long, soft hug. I loved being in his arms. "Let's go home," he whispered and we strolled home in the dark of the night.
