chemotherapy ~ noun : treatment of infectious diseases or cancer using chemical compounds

Exactly one month after I came clean to Louis and Liam 100% of my hair had fallen out and the word had gotten out to everyone. Louis had cried when he saw my hair was gone completely, no kidding, and as a funny present I gave him my hairbrush. He got even more emotional then and went on a rant on how he loved my hair so much, with Liam pitching in to add minor details and sharing memories of my past dodgy and experimental hair styles.

Liam, Louis and I spent almost everyday with each other, my idea as I knew my days were limited, and they reminded me to stay positive and happy. They were so optimistic and didn't treat me like I was a cancer patient at all.

Surprisingly, people who I regularly talked to still did and I wasn't being ignored or gossiped about. A lot of people asked me how I was everyday but honestly I wanted to forget about the cancer right now.

Now, I was back at the hospital for another dose of chemo which was hell. I was seated in a semi-circle of large plush chairs with other cancer patients to my sides. In the distance I saw Dr. Benz and waved to him. He waved back and came over to where me and my mother were sitting.

"Hey Krissy, how you doing?" He asked, bending down onto his hunkers so he was nearer to my level.

"Okay, but all my hair's gone." I lifted my palms to my bald head and covered it.

"That's a side affect of the chemo unfortunately. But don't worry, you still look beautiful." I felt my cheeks go red. Dr. Benz winked and stood up fully to talk to my mom and they walked away somewhere probably so I couldn't hear them.

A few minutes later, my nurse, Fiona, greeted me and talked me through the chemo again. She announced what she was doing at every step like taping my hands to keep tubes and wiring in place and tapped buttons on a box behind me. She finally slotted a needle into my arm which hurt like hell and wished me luck.

After a few minutes I had found a comfortable position and tried to go to sleep as I'd be here for a few hours but felt nausea settling in.

"Um, Fiona!" I called looking around for my nurse. I saw her come rushing.

"Yes dear?" She asked when she was beside me.

"I think I'm gonna be sick." I told her, spluttering on my breath.

Fiona ran to a near cupboard and pulled out a bucket and set it beside me before I threw up in it. I felt better and worse at the same time. Then I threw up again and again and...

"Hey?" I heard a gentle voice. "Sweetheart? Krissy?" The voice whispered. I opened my eyes to find Fiona beside with a juice box and a cookie.

"Is it over?" I asked, yawning.

"For today. C'mon, do you want a cookie?" Fiona handed me the juice and the cookie and a lopsided smile appeared on her face.

"Thanks," I sighed, slurping the juice and munching on the cookie. I was starving.

In the distance I saw my mom walk towards me.

"Hey Kristina." She smiled and rubbed my knee. "You okay?" I nodded. My mother turned to Fiona and said something that I couldn't hear.

"Let's get you home, Hun." My mom murmured and smoothed her thumb across my hand. All the tape and tubes had magically disappeared and I felt normal again.

"Okay, " I yawned and stood up, feeling weak. I suddenly felt my legs go from under me and I fell to the floor. Then I felt strong arms take me up and carry me somewhere but felt my moms hand in mine at all times. It was comforting. That when I passed out.
