"So what do you think of Jupiter Academy so far?"

I though for a moment. On one hand, it was pretty nice. The food was good, the student housing was up to speed, and most of the teachers weren't too strict.

On the other hand, it was a bit uptight. We were always expected to have our uniforms in perfect condition, always keep our grades high, and never disrespect one another. Hazel had confided in me earlier, saying that this rule was broken a lot, (mainly by Octavian), But the teachers never really noticed it. Of course, Octavian managed to get away with it, main reason being because his family was one of the Academy's biggest sponsors/supporters. He could get away with almost anything.

"It was great, all things considered." I answered carefully. I didn't want to speak ill of the school, or offend anyone. Well, mostly anyone.

Hazel smiled her shining, heart-stopping smile. "I'm glad to hear it. Octavian tries to intimidate anyone who he thinks could be a threat. Last year, he tried to intimidate Jason Grace. It didn't end well."

I was intrigued. "What happened? Was there a fight?"

Hazel raised an eyebrow. "Can it be called a fight if Octavian went down in three seconds? One punch, and he was out. I think he learned he's more of a talker than a fighter."

I laughed. "I'm glad someone put him in his place."

She nodded and started to walk again, but I stopped her. "Another question: Who's Jason Grace?"

She froze, and I instantly regretted asking. Clearly, she and this Jason guy had some history.

She sighed. "Jason Grace used to come to our school. He was the Student Body Vice President, and my best friend. My only friend, in fact." She said this quietly, and I had to strain to hear her.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know."

She shrugged. "It's okay. He transferred last year. Octavian told me this morning, and I needed to hear it. Although, I would have preferred hearing it from someone else."

I nodded. "Okay. Seeing as the school day is pretty much over, I think I'll head over to the student housing. See you tomorrow?"

She nodded, but didn't smile. "I'll meet you at the same place. See you then."

"Alright new people, let's line up!" Mr. Quintus, the fencing team coach, shouted. The newcomers, including me, quickly formed a line. I stood second to last.

It was third period, free period, and the fencing team was meeting in the gym to discuss team spots. I had decided to try it out. If all else failed, I could at least do swim team.

"Listen up. Right now, I have twelve spots on the team. Eight of those will go to some of the old fencers. Which means that four of you," He pointed to us, "Have the potential to make the team. But be warned. I will not accept or tolerate anyone who uses foul play. Do any of you know how to fence?"
