Title Credit: I'm Low On Gas and You Need A Jacket- PTV
“Why do you hang out here so much? It’s not like there’s anything to do,” Mike asked as he walked towards the center of the roof while he lit a cigarette. I was currently sat on the edge watching everyone in the City go about their daily business.
“It’s a good spot to people watch.” I replied as I turned around to face him.
“What are you doing up here? If you get caught it’s me that’s going to lose my job. Wait, are you still avoiding Drake?”
“Maybe. Maybe I’m just too lazy to walk down fifteen flights of stairs.”
“That’s what the elevators for,” I pointed out.
“Not the point. I’d rather walk up four flights to the roof than spend ten seconds in an elevator.”
“Claustrophobic?” I guessed.
“You have no idea.”
“Fair enough, but one question, how have you managed to avoid D all this time? I’ve heard that he hasn’t been able to catch you when you’re leaving/wandering around the hotel. And he’s been forbidden from even coming near your room.”
“Just luck,” Mike replied with a grin.
“Teach me your ways,” I mock pleaded.
“I thought he was your friend.”
“He is, but sometimes I just want a little time to myself.”
“I know what you mean.”
“It looks clear as I can’t see him anywhere. You owe me ten bucks though,” Jaime stated as he walked through the door and joined Mike and me.
“Oh hello Molly,” he greeted when he noticed me.
“Hey. So that’s how you do it? Bribe other people to check for you. It’s alright you won’t see him today because he’s not working.”
“So you made me walk through the entire building for nothing!” Jaime whined. “I’m changing it, you owe me twenty.”
“What no way! How was I supposed to know that he wasn’t here?” Mike complained.
“Well you could always get over yourself and just, you know, not care if he sees you. He’s pretty cool when he gets over that first five minutes of seeing us,” Jaime replied.
“I’m alright as I am thanks.”
“You know I could always call him and he’d be here before you could even make the hallway” I informed them.
“Please don’t ever do that,” they both pleaded.
“Then play nicely. What are you guys doing today anyway?” I asked changing the topic.
“What do you mean?” Jaime asked.
“You’ve got a free day, what are you going to do with it. I mean unless you want to stay holed up in those tiny hotel rooms?”
“How’d you even know…?”
“Super fan best friend remember?” I pointed out.
“Good point. I don’t know, I don’t really have any plans,” Mike responded.
“Want to do something?”
“Yeah, like what?”
“I don’t know, something? I mean I don’t really wanna hang around here today.”
“That’s a first. I mean you practically live up here,” Drake called out. I turned to look and saw my best friend leaning in the doorway leading back into the building.
“How long have you been there?” I asked.
“Long enough that you’re buying lunch for the next couple of weeks.”
“Damn. Sorry D.”
“No you’re not,” he replied as he walked over and gave me a hug.
“I know, but it seemed like the polite thing to do.”
“That’s a first as well.”
“Keep going and I won’t buy you shit for the next couple of months,” I muttered.
“There’s the Molly I know,” Drake grinned before turning to Mike.
“So you’ve been bribing the others to keep a lookout for me so could avoid me?” He asked causing Mike to look a little sheepish.
“Erm yeah I guess you could put it that way,” he answered.
“No, that is exactly what you’ve been doing,” Jaime replied.
“Hime shut up!”
“What the only good thing about it is that I’m up about fifty bucks,” he shrugged.
“Why are you avoiding me Mike?” Drake asked.
“I don’t know,” he mumbled.
“It’s because you want to see if you can completely avoid the ‘psycho stalker’ while we’re staying here,” Vic answered as he joined out little group.
“Thanks Vic, thank you very much.”
“I'll give you points for dedication, but you definitely can’t avoid me forever. Also you lose points for the nickname. Totally not cool dude,” Drake told him as he placed a hand over his heart feigning hurt.
“Eh, I can live with it.” Mike shrugged.
“Anyway what are you two doing up here?” I asked addressing my friend and Vic.
“Looking for you. I was going to try and persuade you to come out and do something with me, but it looks like I’m not going to have a problem with that,” Drake told me.
“I came to find Mike to tell him that Alysha wants to talk to him,” Vic replied facing his brother.
“Shit, I said I was gonna call her,” Mike muttered under his breath.
“Okay thanks,” He replied as he made his way down to his room.
“Can we all follow Mike so I don’t get caught encouraging people to come up here, seeing as it is off limits,” I asked.
“Sure, but we’re still going out,” Drake told me.
“Yeah fine whatever,” I replied not really listening.
“Well I was just going to walk around the City with Hime until we thought of something to do. You’d be welcome to tag along if you wanted,” Vic suggested as we all made our way down the stairs.
“Yeah sure. It sounds like more fun than anything D could come up with for sure,” I replied.
“Meet in reception in ten? I just need to change and I was going to Tony if he wants to join us,” Jaime asked.
“Sure, come on D, I need coffee.” I pulled my best friend by the arm towards the stairs.
“Can we at least take the elevator?” He whined upon seeing where I was dragging him.
“No.”
