Song Title: Props And Mayhem- PTV
~Time Lapse~
“Molly did you get some more boxes? And can you please come and help me?” My dad called loudly from his room as he heard me close the front door.
“Yes, but coffee,” I whined.
“Fine. Get your coffee, I'll have one as well thanks for asking, then will you please come in here and help me. This needs to be finished before morning.” I dumped the boxes by the door into the kitchen as I went to make the two of us coffee.
“You know we do have all night. We’ll get everything packed in time, don’t worry.”
“You do know that night time is for sleeping that regular people, like myself, do every night from the hours of about ten/eleven to about seven,” my dad replied as he walked into the kitchen to pick up the boxes and his coffee that was currently brewing on the counter.
“I sleep.”
“Not healthily.”
“Not the point. How much more have we got to pack?”
“Most of my room and then just the other miscellaneous crap that you don’t want to keep here,” he replied. Tomorrow was the day that my dad was moving out to San Diego and he was still packing everything so that it was ready for me to ship over next week.
“Why don’t you start in the lounge and start piling up everything you don’t want to keep here and then after I check it we’ll box it up later.”
“Kay I'll do it in a minute.”
“It’s always in a minute with you,” he mused.
“I'll do it in a minute; I just want to finish my drink first.”
“I'll believe ‘in a minute’ when I see in a minute,” he muttered as he collected the boxes from the floor and went back into his room to continue packing everything I didn’t want or need to keep here.
I sent a text to Drake because I needed someone to talk to all night while I helped my dad box up half of the house, and I also sent one to Tay because I needed someone to help keep me sane while I talked to Drake. I finished my drink and made my way into the lounge to begin the long boring night of sorting through everything.
“Molly, Princess, it’s three am. Go to bed,” My dad walked into the kitchen where I was currently making more coffee
“I’m nearly done,” I replied.
“It will still be there in the morning. You can just pick it up in then; it’s not like it’s going to go anywhere. Go to sleep for a few hours and then come back to it,” He told me.
“I’m okay Dad. I can’t sleep anyway,” I tried to hide the nervousness in my voice, but my father had had years of practice and could usually pick up on the subtle changes in my voice, no matter how hard I tried to hide it. This time was no different.
“Molly its fine. Everything is going to be okay,” he pulled me into a hug and we stayed embraced for a while.
“Come on, let’s go to bed. “ I picked up my mug from the side as I followed my dad through the apartment however I didn’t stop at my room like my father had wanted, but instead entered my studio where I curled up on the couch as I sipped at my coffee.
--
“Molly have you seen my laptop charger?” My dad asked me as he rushed around the apartment, frantically moving like items into small piles, or into boxes or even out of boxes in that ‘I’m going to be so late I’m rushing and why did I not do this last night?’ mode that all parents seemed to have mastered to a T.
“I thought that you left it in your room with your laptop.” I replied as I mindlessly stirred some sugar into my coffee.
“Yeah I left my laptop out thinking it had enough charge to get me through to this afternoon, and I thought I put my charger with the rest of my electronics.”
“Would you not have put it with your ‘non-essential essentials’?” I quoted.
“That would make sense. I'll go and look.”
“It’s alright if you don’t find it today, I can just ship it over to you when it turns up. Although it could be in one of the thirty boxes that have already been packed, or even in one of the ten boxes waiting for you at home.”
“I know, it’s just I wanted to see if I could get some work done before I left.”
“It’s going to be okay Daddy. I’ve got to get ready or I’m gonna be late. Do you want/need anything?” I asked as I set my empty mug down and started to walk towards my room to get changed for work.
“No I’m alright Princess. I’m just gonna finish packing.”
“Do you need any help? Steven’ll understand. In fact he offered me the day off, but I said I’d go in for a couple of hours,” I asked from my room.
“No it’s okay. You go.”
“You sure?”
“Yeah. Have a nice day.”
“See you later,” I called as I walked through the door.
--
“I’m back.”
“Did you even leave?” My dad joked as I walked through the front door and almost tripped over a pile of boxes that thankfully wasn’t labeled ‘FRAGILE’.
“Missed me that much huh?”
“Didn’t even notice you were gone.”
“I noticed. Is everything packed and ready?” I asked.
“Almost.”
“What’s left?”
“Just the last of my daily’s and anything I’m taking with me on the plane,” he informed me.
“Want a hand with it?”
“No you’re alright. It won’t take me five minutes. You can make me a cup of coffee though.”
“Yes sir!”
I carefully made my way into the kitchen trying to avoid the obstacle course of boxes in my path. When our drinks were ready I took them through to my dad’s room and sat on his bed and watched as he threw the last couple of items of clothes into his suitcase before he joined me on his bed.
“When’s the taxi getting here?” I asked.
“Around half past.”
“I’m gonna miss you Dad,” I started randomly after a heavy silence had fallen between us.
“I’m gonna miss you too Princess. You know you can come and visit any time you want and I'll come back and see you when I can.” He pulled me into a hug.
“I know, it’s just going to be weird without you here to tell me off for staying out all night.”
“Like you listen to me anyway.”
“I know, but knowing that you’re there and looking out for me. It’ll be weird okay?”
“I know, but it’s not like I really have a choice with this move. And it’s not like we’re never gonna see each other or talk to each other again is it? We can still talk to each other, there’s just going to be 2700 miles between us.”
“That all?”
“I know,” he replied as the doorbell rang.
“That’ll be the taxi. You ready?” My father asked me. I took a deep breath before I replied.
“Mmm no.”
“Me neither. Let’s go.”
