“Molly Knightly!” My dad shouted at me as I walked through the door. I didn’t even realize that he was home yet. The last I heard was a note over the one I left saying he was out of town for a week. It was also strongly advising that I should be home when he got back because we needed to talk. It was probably the thing from the night he tried to wait up for me which was just over was just over a week ago.

I also had Drake on the phone going completely insane and texting me every two seconds freaking out as tonight was the night of the gig. I put my phone on silent to get a moment of peace from the relentless bombardment of texts and made my way out to the living room. I gave my dad a hug as I always did when one of us got back from being somewhere and waited for the argument that was surely to follow.

“I’m sorry Princess.” That was unexpected. What?

“What?” I asked confused.

“The business isn’t going so well and they have to close down most of their buildings including the one they have here.”

“That’s okay; you can just find another job. We’ll manage,” I replied still not seeing what the problem was.

“That’s not all…” He started hesitantly.

“Go on…” I said slowly not entirely sure if I wanted to hear what my dad had to say.

“They want to relocate me. They have an apartment, car travel expenses all covered. According to them I was too good at my job,” he chuckled nervously.

“Only you could be too good at your job.” I muttered quietly, but my dad still heard me and chuckled at my comment.

“Where do they want to move you to?” It came out barely louder than a whisper.

“To their headquarters in San Diego…”

“But that’s in…” I cut him off.

“Cali.” He voice grew significantly quieter.

“No!” I yelled.

“I don’t want to go either. But the money is a hell of a lot better over there and everything we need is being supplied,” he tried to reason. I could feel the tears starting to form in my eyes.

“Don’t cry Princess.” Hearing my pet name set me off and I started to sob. My dad pulled me into a hug and just held me there while I cried into his shoulder, making his shirt wet.

“I can’t go back there. I won’t go back there.”

“We don’t have a choice. We’re barely scraping by as it is and if I don’t have a job then we won’t make the rent. Then we’ll be homeless and have nothing. I’ve worked too hard to let it all go to waste now. I just want you to be happy darling.”

“I am happy. Here, we’ll manage,” I argued.

“I won’t have a job and you’re still a kid. I have to take up this offer.”

“I’m eighteen.” I muttered out of habit when anyone mentioned my age.

“I’m not going.”

“I’ve already accepted the offer. I was at the new place last week to check things out. It’s nice over there, you’ll like it.”

“You go.”

“What?”

“I can’t go back there, not after mom…” I stopped midsentence.

“What are you saying exactly?”
