Title Credit: A Match Into Water- PTV
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you, it’s not worth it.”
I snapped my head up at the new voice which had startled me. No one knew I was up here except for Drake, but I knew he wouldn’t inform anyone of my whereabouts until he did his pre-shift check on me. Besides most of the staff probably assumed I was up here all the time.
“What are you doing here?” I asked startled that another person was out here as it was a restricted area, although the staff had long since stopped trying to get me to move down from the roof. I climbed down from the edge as the new person had caused me to jump enough to nearly lose my balance and I didn’t particularly feel like falling to my death tonight.
“I could ask you the same question.”
“I asked first,” I replied sounding like a stubborn twelve year old girl.
“I think you’ll find that I started the conversation and therefore you have to answer my question first.”
“Yes, but you started with a statement. I started with a question; there was no reply needed to your statement, but a question requires an answer,” I stated.
“Well technically I started with an opinion, but your point is valid. I came out here for a smoke; coming up was quicker and easier than going down,” he replied with a shrug whilst getting out said fag and lighting it.
“I answered your question, now it’s your turn, err…” I told him my name.
What brings you up to the roof of an almost twenty storey building?”
“I came up here to think and clear my mind so I can think about something in private.” I replied sitting down in the middle of the rooftop.
“Not to be rude, but who are you?” I asked looking up at him. He gave out a small chuckle before he joined me on the floor.
“I’m Mike. Isn’t that what your home is for? Privacy? A rooftop is one hell of a place to hide.”
“It doesn’t matter.”
“It does if it has you sat on the edge of a very high building,” Mike replied, his voice having gone considerably softer.
“I come up here all the time,” I paused to think about what he had said.
”Wait, did you think I was gonna…” I trailed off.
“You were sat on the edge of a building. What else am I supposed to think?” The topic was taking a dark turn and I didn’t want to think why I was always on the roof.
“Why does that name sound familiar?” I asked hanging the topic.
“I don’t know, you know a lot of Mike’s?” he asked his voice regaining that almost playful tone it had had earlier.
“None.”
“Would it help if I told you that I have seen you before?”
“No, that would just sound creepy as hell.”
“What about if I told you it was earlier this evening?” My eyes went wide as I recognized where I knew him from.
“You’re that drummer or that band that was playing earlier!”
“I am indeed. Did you enjoy the show?”
“I liked what I saw.” I said carefully.
“You didn’t stay? That must mean that the show was bad enough you felt the need to leave halfway through it!” Mike feigned hurt by placing his hand over his heart.
