nina

mixing business and feelings will only lead to complications

----

I’ve never thought that I would get to see Nina again. Well Nina is my ex-girlfriend. I met her when we were in grade 8 then we dated ever since.

She was a transfer from somewhere where the accent is funny to the point where no one really wants to talk to her. Well me, I didn’t mind that. I befriend her and we clicked.

We always do things together, doing a lot of first time stuff together. She would always wear my shirts or hoodies just because she like them. We would do camping together and just appreciate the nature around us.

We made it through until Senior high but we got separated when my mom sent my abroad to study business for our company.

The first few months was fine, everyday skype, everyday phone call and going back home once a month just to see my Nina but then it got rocky the next. It was never enough for her. She said that she needed more. She needed me beside her. She told me I was away too much.

I didn’t argue with her back then. I too needed to focus on my study, I need more time for myself and next thing we knew we broke up but said we would stay friends. The skype and calls go on for a while but it just stopped when I didn’t have time for her. Ah well, love will come and love will go.

A few minutes after the call, I was in Nina’s front door apartment. I press the doorbell and there she was. The brown haired, big blue eyes, pouty lips, small body built Nina. The Nina I knew all my life. The Nina that was precious to me.

“Hi.” I hugged her and she reciprocated the hug. “It’s been quite a while. I’m sorry if I…” I trailed

“It’s alright.” She said thrifty.

She let me into her living room. It was the same living room where there were memories of us as lovers.

“Make yourself at home.” She said. I put my bags down and stretched my arms.

“I’m sorry I have to crash here. I promise you I will be out of your hair when I found an apartment for me. Do you know any?” I asked her.

“Nope. But I’ll help you find one.” She sat on the couch and gestured me to sit down too. I sat down. I looked at her. She was as beautiful as ever and she hasn’t change at all.

“So, what is the matter?” she asked. She knew me very well. “I know it must be very big to run away from home.”

“Yeah. Well, I saw my dad fucking his secretary and I hurled at him saying I’m not proud of him and all of those shit.”

“You wouldn’t.” She said surprise.

“Well, I did Nina. He was fucking another woman. He was cheating.”

“Don’t you think you were too harsh?” That’s Nina, she always weigh the sides of the situations. And she always speak her mind out.

“No Nina. I think he deserved that.”

Well this conversation went on and on over a box of pizza. Time flies when we were talking. We had done a lot of catching up. I’ve learned that she went to the University where she took up Business Management and now she manages her own business. She opened up a café too. She had 1 boyfriend when we broke up and they had broken up a year ago. She now gives her time and energy to her café.

Catching up with a friend is nice. Knowing you know her from head to toe and all in between. To tell you the truth, I missed hanging out with her. Talking with her is like home. She was once my other half, my life and my Elizabeth Nina Collins.
