The Netherrealm is a dimension set beneath the surface of the Earth, between the lithosphere and the upper mantle.
It is a dark and hellish environment, temperatures reaching almost 900 °C as the highest temperature recorded, and the lowest being 104 °C.
The place was seen as a place of banishment, one with no inhabitants.
But once you step foot into the hellish realm, you'll instantly realize you're not alone in the universe.
Humanoid creatures with pale-grey skin that reach heights of 9 ft tall born with the power of firebending can be seen across every corner of the Netherrealm.
The capitol of the Netherrealm is known as Angarika, where the rulers of the dimension reside while in power.
The grounds around the city are crimson red, and lava can be seen just about anywhere.
But if you venture past Angarika's boundaries, there are plenty of places that will blow your mind at first sight.
The Baskara Shadowlands:
This area is a vast desert of brown sands and massive pillars of solid basalt, a common Netherean export.
Located west of Angarika, this region wreaks with the souls of the dead.
In terms of fauna, you'll come across Whispering Cobras, which can spit out fire from their fangs and light themselves ablaze, giant spiders called Flarachnids that have legs made of lead, their bite is capable of instantly paralyzing its victim, and the Magma Dwellers.
Two of these species were introduced to Earth as an invasive species, continuing to roam in certain parts to this day.
The largest city, Savita, is home to the celebration of Shi Matsuri, a Dia De Los Muertos like holiday that is now celebrated both in the Netherrealm and on Earth.
The Akosuan Woodlands:
This region is far north of Angarika, sprawling with trees that give off a crimson or cyan hue.
It is here where the lowest temperature ever recorded was observed, at roughly 104°C.
The region is filled with wildlife, ranging from the mildly aggressive but tameable ash rhinos, netherean oxen, black tigers with glowing red stripes, cerulean warthogs, dragons, rattlevipers, and bluewolves.
It is a heavily popular wedding location, and a huge tourist attraction.
The Basalt Highlands:This grey misted region is located east of Angarika.
It is here where only the toughest Nethereans survive, climbing the tallest peaks in the region here is a major test of strength.
Giant creatures roam this area, including the likes of the Lycanite species, a bat-scorpion hybrid that can set itself on fire, Ember Yetis which can grow to the size of a 3 story building, the Withering Serpents, which can slowly cause your skin to wither down to bone level with only one bite, injecting their victim with a venomous mixture of mercury and neurotoxins, Manticores which have a bite force equivalent to that of a T-Rex, and the Inferno Golems.
Occasionally, a stampede of ash rhinos can be seen running through the colossal valleys in the region.
It is also a heavily volcanic region, which makes the life there incredibly dangerous.
The largest city in these parts is the city of Azuloth, which houses a gladiator-style arena known as the Magmadome, where the toughest Nethereans fight it out.
Angarika:
The capitol city of the Netherrealm dimension, this area acts as the central hub for the Royal Netherean Army, their motto:
igne nos imperaturum, meaning "Through Fire, We Reign Supreme."The palace depicted in the photo was built sometime during the Pyhrros dynasty in honor of his wife Empress Ayaka.
It is here where the Netherean Parliament is based, which serves as the congress for the Netherrealm.
However, the emperor or empress of the Netherrealm are the ones who make, pass, and repeal the laws while the Netherean Parliament just enforces them.
The palace is heavily fortified, and is the most secure building in all of the Netherrealm.
It is also here in Angarika where the export of Raksebium is ridiculously high, as their mines go down to the start of Earth's mantle.
Raksebium is the heaviest metal on the planet, and it's also referred to as Netherean Steel.
It is virtually indestructible, as the only thing capable of cutting through it is weapons laced with Solara's energy such as the Lightbreaker.
