"Smoking is bad for you, you know," Daphne said, as she and Xavier leaned against the graffitied wall.

Xavier turned to her and blew a thick cloud of exhaled smoke into her face. She coughed on it for a bit before stating, "You're damaging the atmosphere."

"Aw, poor atmosphere..." He sighed, "That I don't give a flying fuck about," He contined. "Are you dating anyone?" She asked. Xavier questioned why he needed to tell her anything, till he realized that the question that was asked was a harmless and easy one.

"Nope."

Daphne grinned and leaned into his direction. "Anyone you like?" She asked. Maybe the question was rhetorical - so he assumed - but it was a genuine question.

"There's a girl," He said turning to her. He could trust in Daphne, besides, who was she going to tell? She had no friends.

"What's her name..." She squealed. "Again - I'm not dating anyone," He reiterated. "Her name's Jelani," He said. He looked into the distance at the cars zooming past 4th Avenue road.

"What's she like?" She asked, hoping for a solid answer. "She's passionate. I like her." Daphne grinned. There was always something deeper about Daphne - she was mysterious - almost like she was beyond everyone else. That's what Xavier liked about her from the start.

"I thought we said that we'd remain friends..." Daphne said, looking at the cars. Xavier turned to her. "I assumed you'd make the effort. I would call you, but I didn't want to disturb you - I thought you'd find me annoying."

"I've always found you annoying, Daph," He openly admitted. For a second, it was hard for her to fathom what he had just said. "Oh."

He turned to her and smiled. "Are you expecting an apology of some sort?" He shrugged. "Sort of," She stated, moving an orange lock to the side. "I just wasn't in a good space, Daphne," He sighed. "You weren't in a good space for an entire year?" She interrogated.

Busy, mostly.

"Yes, I was, life got hectic, D," He said. "You could've talked to me about it..." She crossed her arms. The height of awkwardness had come blossoming into the conversation, making Xavier begin to tap his thigh uncontrollably. "I would've been there for you," She reiterated.

"I'm not going to tell someone that I DATED for three months my entire life story," He groaned. "We were friends before we dated," She explained. "It should've stayed that way, then." Xavier was about to get another cigarette out, before his hand collided with hers - she grabbed the pack and stored in her bag, away from Xavier.
