"Can I cuddle for a little longer, princess?" He asked, in the crook of his girlfriend's shoulder. She was still half-asleep, wrapped in the warm embrace of Xavier. "Okay," She groaned, kissing his tattooed arm. "What're your plans today?" He asked sweetly. "I wanna get my tattoo today. Then talk to my sister. Then go grocery shopping. Then catch up my lecture. Then go to work. Go back home and make up with Fairy and Verity. That sums it up," She said with her eyes still shut.

"This is why I dropped out," Xavier said, pinching the bridge of his nose. "I wanna get to know more about you...I feel like I hardly know much. I told you about my family - you wanna return the favor?" She sighed.

Did he really want to tell her how fucked up he was?

Obviously not, but he felt that she deserved to know some bit of it.

"Mhm, okay, well...I'm an orphan now," He sighed. "My mother passed two years ago, then my stepfather passed away a few years ago. I honestly have no idea where my biological father is," He said in a low voice. "My mom was Chinese and my stepfather American. Both her and I moved here after she found she was pregnant with my little sister," He said. Jelani analyzed as his face transitioned from a sort-of-okay face to a saddened face. "Where is your little sister?" She asked.

"She took her own life."

Maybe he had admitted it to himself for the first time. Maybe he was about to tell the world to lose itself. But he remained the same: too hurt to be vulnerable.

Jelani didn't regret asking him...in fact she was grateful she asked him because she understood why he was so closed off and tough. "When?" She asked instead.

"Exactly a year after mom," he answered. She held on him tighter, as if she were protecting him. "Thanks for not apologizing," He smiled. "What's wrong with people apologizing?" She queried. "It convinces me that it had something to do with their death." Jelani nodded a no in disagreement. "Some people just can't accept or process the information. So they apologize, not because they're saying it was their fault - but because they can't understand how hurt you are."
