"What?" Jelani scoffed, interrupting the serenity with the loud dynamic of her voice. Just a few seconds ago, Xavier claimed:
"I want you to be mine."
"I want you to be mine," He restated. Jelani presumed that she didn't here the words, you to be mine, correctly. "What? What do you mean...?" Jelani wondered.
Xavier turned to her, smacking his teeth whilst rolling his eyes. "I want you-"
"I know, I heard that," She interrupted. "To be my legit girl," He reinforced. "What do mean: 'your legit girl'?" Jelani interrogated.
"Don't you get it...?I want you to be my girlfriend."
"Girlfriend?"
"Girlfriend."
After three months and excruciating pain caused by waiting for Xavier to finally be ready for a relationship. "Me?" She questioned, although they were the only two in the room. Xavier rolled his eyes.
"My deal expires, sweetheart," He said. "I want you. Only you, Jelani Elias River, damnit," He continued. Jelani pouted and hugged him.
"You know my middle name?" She said in a high-pitched voice. "You filled it out on the form when you were getting your first tattoo done."
"So?" He reiterated. Jelani paused for a minute. This had been the moment that she had waited so long for. From the first time she admitted that she felt something when they were together, to the way that she missed him when they stopped talking.
She held one secret away from him. If she was unable to tell him in that moment, she wouldn't ever be able to forgive herself.
