    The camp was quiet today

The camp was quiet today. Nothing much was happening. Tinyslip padded back into camp with a crow and a squirrel in her jaws. She padded over and dropped them down on the freshkill pile.

"Tinyslip!" A loud voice rang over the camp's clearing. A small brown kit sprinted over to her.

"Hello Brackenkit," she purred once he reached her.

"Can you show me the hunter's crouch again? I want to get it down when I become an apprentice in a few days."

"Sure. Let's get out of the middle of the camp. I don't want any of the warriors to trip over you. I'm sure you don't want them to pull your fur out."

They padded over next to the nursery. Tinyslip crouched down into her hunting crouch as a demonstration to Brackenkit. He tried to copy her, but had many mistakes to fix. Tinyslip went over and corrected the soon to be apprentice.

"You're going to be the best mentor ever! I can't wait to become an apprentice!"

That word is being thrown at me again, she thought. The other day, Brackenkit yelled that out. She didn't feel like she could be the best mentor. There would be so many other cats in the clan that would be a better mentor to Brackenkit but Flamestar picked her.

She tried to be confident on the outside, but inside, she wasn't. She knew that something would happen to Brackenkit one day and everyone would throw all the blame on her because he is her apprentice. Brackenkit was Flamestar's kit. His only kit. He would totally exile her if something happened and Brackenkit was killed.

"I think I got it!" Brackenkit's yell freed her from her thoughts.

"I would say it is pretty good. Just remember to not swish your tail. If you accidentally move a leaf then your prey will be taking off into the bushes."

"There is my favorite son," A low voice appeared behind her. Flamestar padded over to the kit as Brackenkit ran over to his father.

"Tinyslip is teaching me the hunter's crouch so I can be ready to hunt once I'm an apprentice."

Now I'm going to get scolded for training him before he is an apprentice.

"It sounds like you're doing well. Every kit is eager to learn before their apprenticeship. I'm glad you're getting ready early. I want you to be the best apprentice ever."

    "I will!"

Tinyslip was surprised by Flamestar's actions. She expected to be scolded, but she was being praised.

The sun was beginning to set and Fernstep called Brackenkit in to sleep. Tinyslip dipped her head to Flamestar before padding off to the warrior's den. Frogsplash sat there grooming his fur.
