Chapter 3: Inquisition

Artemis's POV

It's not like I was trying to get shot. If had had been trying, well, I'd be dead. Really dead.

"Artemis! Look out!" Green Arrow yelled and tackled me to the ground as another sniper started shooting at us, but from another direction.

"Run, run! Go!" He yelled as we ran towards the edge of the roof, where we would be able to find cover behind the roof ledge.

We reached the edge and jumped off, but I made sure to try to hit on of the snipers as I was falling. Someone yelled.

We slid down and leaned against the wall, panting for breath.

"That. Was a close one." My mentor said breathlessly.

"Yeah."

"Too bad... they got away." He said.

"Yeah."

"Is that all you want to say today?"

"Yeah."

"Is this because of the thing that happened last week with Grundy and Lady Shiva?"

"No."

"Want to head to the cave to see the team?" He said as we stood back up and started walking back to our base.

"Yeah."

"Great, maybe I can get them to interrogate you for me." He said.

I sighed.

"Really? That's all I get?" He pouted.

"Sorry, I just- I'm upset about the mission last week is all. It was our first official mission fighting alongside the League and we failed. Not only did we not get the target, but Superman got hurt and Lady Shiva got away." I said, disappointed.

"And you feel guilty?" He asked.

"Yeah."

"You know, if you think about it, don't tell the League, but you guys weren't there when Lady Shiva or the target got away. You were there and helped tremendously when Grundy was taken down. Technically, all the good things that happened were because of you and the team." He said.

"Maybe I should use this moment against you as blackmail for the League." I joked.

"Really!? I'm never trying to cheer you up again!" He exclaimed, but smiled.

I laughed.

We reached the zeta tubes and walked through, they announced our names and could hear Wally groaning while the rest of the team came our way.

"Well, I better get going. See you later Artemis." Green Arrow said.

"And you!" I smiled and he walked back through the zeta tube.

"What, Arrow is too cool to hang with us or something?" Wally asked.

"Shut up kid mouth."

"Team." Batman said, making me flinch because I had no idea he was there before.

"Mission. Get ready and go to the debriefing room. You have less than three minutes." He said, before melting back into the shadows creepily.

"Come on slowpokes! Move it!" Shouted a young and happy voice from the vents.

"Robin. Get out of the vents." Kaldur said with a smile.

"What a party pooper." I heard him mumble from a distance, probably crawling away.
