Recap: "Brett is my brother."
Silence. My words hang in the air as I wait for some kind of response. None comes. What do I do now? God, Luke must hate me for lying to him and making him think all that stuff. It was stupid. Why didn't I just tell him who Brett was at the airport?
I open my mouth to try to explain myself, but before I can get a word out, Luke's hands find my hips, pulling my body to his until his lips cover mine.
As soon as I realize what's happening, my hands reach for his shoulders, and I push him back. Our faces disconnect.
Immediately, tension fills the air after my rejection. Why did I reject him? Wasn't I about to let him kiss me on his bed just a little while ago? Plus, why did he kiss me in the first place?
"Luke...I-" My mind is so muddled that I can't even form a sentence.
"Don't worry about it. It never happened," he says, opening the door to the closet and stepping out, straight into Michael.
His words cause a stinging feeling in my chest.
"There you guys are," Michael says before flipping on the light to the bathroom. "Wait, you guys hid together?" He raises an eyebrow, but before either Luke or I can answer, Ashton and Calum come strolling in.
"Oh, good. You found them," Calum says. "You guys up for a movie?"
"Steph, were you in there that whole time?" Ashton asks.
"Yeah, on that shelf. And a movie sounds great," I say, trying to veer the subject away from getting caught in a closet with Luke.
"What? I checked that shelf!" Calum exclaims.
"Pretty much all of you did," I say with a grin as I follow them into the living room. "But you stopped after touching the wall of towels in front of me."
"Sneaky, sneaky."
Thankfully, no one else questions Luke being found in the closet as well.
Once in the living room, we plop down onto the couches. Luke strolls in a few seconds after us and inspects the couch. There's only one cushion open, and it's the one next to me. He stares at it for a moment and then opens his mouth to speak.
"I'm going to make snacks. Anyone want anything?"
"Popcorn!" Mikey yells.
"Grab the M&M's," Calum adds.
Ashton stands up. "I'll help you."
While they are in the kitchen, Mikey jumps up and goes for the tub of movies in the entertainment center. "Let's pick what to watch!
"Narrow it down to three, and we'll vote," Calum suggests.
With a very serious look on his face, Michael begins digging in the bin. Eventually, he looks up again with a smile on his face and three movies in his hands. He holds up the first: Transformers.
"I just watched that a couple days before coming here," I say.
He frowns and holds up Saw.
"Ew."
"Fine. What about this one?" He shows me Tangled.
"Yes! It's my favorite!"
Calum groans beside me, and Ashton calls out from the kitchen, "Heck no. None of your chick crap, Mikey."
"Well what now? Apparently my choices are either too gross or too girly," Michael says, throwing his hands up in exasperation.
