During the show, I can't bear to focus on Luke, whether that be with my thoughts or with my lens, so I end up taking pictures of mostly Calum and Ashton from the side of the stage. I just don't feel up to going out into the crowd tonight; especially since I'm pretty sure Brianna and her posse are sitting front row.
After the boys play the last chord, I turn and flee. Luke and I ended our conversation on an awkward note since he had to rush to the stage, and I don't really know how to interact with him right now. So instead, I choose to avoid him.
As I wind through the backstage hallways, I come across Harry and Niall. They both smile and wave when they see me.
"Where are you headed in such a hurry?" Niall asks, stepping in front of me.
"Just back to the bus," I say.
"That's boring! You want to come hang with us until we have to go on?" he continues.
I hesitate. Part of me really doesn't want to just go back to the bus by myself and sulk, but the other part knows that hanging out with these guys will probably only make my problems with Luke worse.
With a frown, I say, "Thanks, but I don't really feel well. I think I'm just going to go lay down."
Harry gives me a concerned look. "Okay, but if you change your mind, you know where to find us."
With a small smile of gratitude, I continue on my path to the parking lot. My walk takes me past the 5 Seconds of Summer dressing room. I hesitate outside the door, and that's when I hear Brianna's voice from inside.
"There's this party for my dad's company tonight. It's at the Manhattan. Do you guys want to come?"
I hold my breath, waiting for their responses.
It's Calum who answers. "Sure! Sounds like a good time."
When I don't hear any of the boys-especially Luke-turn down their offer, a wave of nausea passes over me.
"Just be back by one. We drive to El Paso tonight." It's Adam who issues the curfew, to which the boys scoff, but promise to be back in time. Adam has been known to leave a band member behind who doesn't show up for departures on time, so they all take him seriously.
Hurt by the thought of my boyfriend going out on the town with those other girls, especially when we're in the middle of an argument, is enough to make me sick.
I turn away from the door and drag myself back to the bus. Once there, I strip off my clothes, pull on a pair of yoga pants, and search for a comfortable top. My eyes land on Luke's hoodie in my bunk, and even though it makes no sense at all, I pull it on and collapse onto my bed.
It's not like Luke and I have broken up-well at least we haven't yet-but this unresolved conflict is weighing heavily on my mind. The longer I lay there in the dark, the sicker I feel. I guess I didn't know that I would be telling the truth when I told Harry and Niall that I didn't feel well.
