Me and Lucy sat in the middle of the bottom bleachers. I turned to my right only to see Jarred winked at me. I turned to my left and Daniel smiled at me. I felt awkward where ever I look so instead, I just looked straight at the talking headmaster, Mrs Maslow.

“Now students, I need you to settle down now! Settle down!” Mrs Maslow spoke through the mike on the podium. “There’s a new student joining us this semester. He’d just transferred here from Deacon High. I hope all of you would give a warm welcome to Christopher Warren.”

The students applauded. Cristopher Warren, a.k.a the airhead, came down the bleachers and stood beside Mrs Maslow. “Hi everyone, I’m Christopher James Warren but my friends call me Chris.” He introduced himself with a genuine smile. The female population all chatted excitedly. I’ve got to admit, he’s quite easy on the eyes.

“Now students, since Mr Warren is new here, I would like a volunteer to show him around school for at least a week.” Mrs Maslow spoke. “Anyone interested?”

Almost the whole female population raised up their hands instantly. “Me, I’ll do it!” One said

“No, I’ll be a better guide.” Another spoke.

“Hey, I know everything about the school!”

The bickering went on and on. I can’t believe how desperate these girls are! The confusion on Mrs Maslow face was epic! I snorted.

Unfortunately, I snorted a little bit too loud. Loud enough for Mrs Maslow to hear. “Yes, Miss Leonardo? Is there anything that you find is funny?” She asked.

“Nope. Not at all Mrs Maslow. I...uh...was just bored so Lucy told me a funny joke to entertain me.” I replied. “Right Lucy?” I elbowed her.

“Ouh is that right Miss Winter? Care to share the joke with us?” Mrs Maslow folded her arms and waited.

Crap! Lucy, beside me, stiffened. “Erm...sure. Uhh... where did the cat go when it loses its tail?” Lucy attempted. I squeezed her hand to show her how sorry I am.

“Where did it go?” Mrs Maslow seemed genuinely intrigued.

“To the retail shop, Mrs Maslow.” Lucy answered.

“Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha. Gee...Miss Winter, that was hilarious.” It obviously was not if the bored expression she wore was any indication. Then she turned to me. Double crap. “Miss Leonardo, if you are so bored then you probably wouldn’t mind being Christopher’s buddy, would you?”

Triple crap. Wait, say what?! “Why me? There are tons of other girls willing to do it.” I contradicted.

Then, out of no where, Jarred stood up. “Yeah Mrs Maslow, I don’t think Amy is fit for the job. Why can’t anyone else do it?” He defended me.

“Awww...looks like someone is jealous!” Lucy whispered in my ear. I shhh-ed her.

“Sit down Mr Gunner!” The headmaster warned Jarred. “And I won’t take no for an answer Amy! You will be Christopher’s buddy for a week. Case closed.” She slapped her palm on the podium for emphasis.

Girls everywhere all muttered under their breath -clearly not happy with the decision. And I couldn’t agree with them more. I turned to look at Chris only to find that he was looking right at me too. His face was blank. I couldn’t tell if he was angry or glad that I was his buddy. Fortunately, the class bell rang and interrupted our awkward moment. Chris walked up the bleachers and left homeroom, followed by everyone else. I stayed behind to have a talk with Mrs Maslow.

“Mrs Maslow, I’m a very busy girl. I don’t have time to babysit that Christopher guy.” I told her.

“There’s actually a reason why I picked you Amelia. Christopher happens to be a straight A student and you’ve been falling behind in all your classes. So I thought that maybe Christopher could help get you on the right track.”She replied.
