In the shelter of his first masters:

Gardner in 1851 was on his way to Kashmir with his old master, Gulab Singh, at the beginning of the year.  Here, at a young age, he married a Kashmiri.  Gardner now lives like a regular Kashmiri, dressed and wearing the same khaj, bhatta and kudram greens.

From the womb of that mountain, Gardner gave birth to a baby girl, whom he named Helena.  Towards the end of his life, Gardner was on his way to Jammu.  There, at the age of 76 on January 22 1877 Gardner's "strange" soul,

who had performed astonishing duties, was freed from Kalbut's captivity forever.

Will:

According to Gardner's last will and testament, his body was buried in the Roman Cabal, Maryada, in a Christian cemetery in the English region of Sialkot.
