Sirius and James walked into the potions classroom ten minutes late. They where surprised to see that instead on Slughorn sitting at the desk was professor Mcgonanal.

"your late" she stated

"yes and i think your lost" James replied and Sirius grinned.

"actually, Mr potter" she began " professor Slughorn has an important meeting so i will be taking your detention" 

"oh well in the case we actually had something we wanted to ask you professor" Sirius began

"and what is it you wanted to ask me" she replied

"well we wondering how someone would become an animagus" Sirius said

"hypothetically" James quickly added and Sirius nodded his head in agreement

"completely hypothetical" He added for good measure.

"oh, well its a long process and you need permission from the ministry, so i don't see why you boys would want to know" she replied.

"oh" Sirius said "well I had read a book on it over the holidays and I just thought it was interesting and wanted to know more so I figured I would ask you because well, you know you are an animagus."

"you read a book?" Mcgonagal asked sounding as if Sirius had told her, he went swimming with the giant squid.

"yes" Sirius replied

"over the holidays?"

"yes" Sirius repeated.

"for you own entertainment?"

"yes" he repeated for the third time.

Mcgonagal gave him a quizzical look and sighed.

"you need to be of age to become an animagus and its very advanced magic, it takes a lot of time and effort," she said.

Sirius nodded enthusiastically

"i'm afraid i really shouldn't tell you how to become one though" she sighed

"why not professor?" James asked

"well in case you attempt to become animagus" she replied

"what?!" Sirius exclaimed "us, break the law, how could you think so badly of us"

"why do you think?" she asked while raising an eyebrow

"i don't know" James began.

"we would never break any rules, never mind the law" Sirius finished.

Mcgonagal sighed "you both need to write an essay for the detention"

James and Sirius groaned as they where handed parchment.

"and sit at different sides of the room, no talking" she added.

Sirius was walking back to the common room alone as James had a detention with professor Flitwick.

"Sirius" Regulus called out "why have you been avoiding me?" he asked

"what? i haven't been avoiding you" Sirius lied

"uh- yes you have, listen if its-" Regulus started

"Guess what!" Sirius interrupted to change the subject.

"umm, what?" 

"your supposed to guess, that's the whole point you idiot" 

"ok fine," Regulus sighed "did Remus look at you?" he finished
