POV: Harper

"You can't be serious, Lauren. There is no way in hell that you are driving in that storm." My Nan stood in front of the door with her hands on her hips.

Lauren followed me in for a minute per my request. I just wanted her to stay for a extra minute to keep my mom off of my mind and she didn't hesitate to come with me.

"Nan, you can't force her to stay." I sighed in embarrassment.

"I can too. It's dangerous out there." My Nan put her foot down and I kept my mouth shut.

"It's okay, Harper. I can stay till it lightens up some." Lauren chuckled at my Nan's stubbornness and my obvious embarrassment.

"I'm making dinner. Your father should be home in a hour or so." My Nan walked away from the door and went into the kitchen once she was sure Lauren wouldn't leave after she moved away from the door.

"I'm sorry I made you come in. I didn't think my Nan would do that." I internally face palmed. I should've known that she'd do that. Ever since my dad and I got into the bad accident when I was little, she never lets anyone drive in any storm.

"It's okay. She's right. It isn't safe to drive in that and your dad is about to." Lauren pointed out with worry in her voice.

"He'll be okay. If he has to pull over he will." I assured her.

No sooner than the words left my mouth did the power go out.

"Gramps, do you still have the generator?" I groaned in annoyance. I hate storms with a passion.

"Yes, I got some gas for it earlier today too. I don't know if I have the strength to move it out of the garage. I planed on your dad being home before the power went out." My Gramps got up from his chair.

"I can help. I may not look like it, but I can lift." Lauren was quick to offer help.

"I'm not one to doubt a woman's strength. I trust you." My Gramps brushed off Lauren's assurance. "After Harper's Nan kicked my tail in a wrestling match in our twenties, I haven't doubted a woman since."

"Your Nan wrestled?" Lauren asked me as we followed my Gramps to the garage.

"They both went to college for it and played on rival universities. She was undefeated, and so was my Gramps until my Nan beat him and nearly suffocated him in a headlock because he didn't want to tap out to a girl." I laughed to myself when my Gramps grumbled.

"The woman nearly killed me and then asked me on a date afterwards. The audacity alone made me say yes." Despite my Gramps being a grump with the topic, he laughed it off a bit.

Lauren smiled beside me as she listened to the story.

He showed Lauren the generator that was tucked in the corner of the garage. "The wheels don't work well."

Lauren shrugged, lifted it up just a bit, and pushed it out of the garage with ease and my eyes widened. The wheels didn't move on it at all. She just pushed the damn thing like it was nothing.

"Well I'll be damned." My Gramps chuckled and dusted it off some.

"Jesus Christ Lauren." I looked her up and down, rethinking my choice of being around her. She could break me in half.

"I workout, hun." Lauren laughed at my reaction before gently turning me around by carefully pushing my forearm to face me in the direction of the door and then putting her hand on the small of my back to usher me into the house. "No need to stay out here and rained on."
