POV: Harper
"I'm going to go and see if the coast is clear." Darius cleared his throat.
I watched him walk into the house, and then his heavy footsteps carried throughout it.
"We're all good. I don't smell anything." Darius grabbed my things before Lauren and I could, and walked back into the house. He claims that it was the way he was raised. The man played football as a lineman all throughout his life. He was built like a damn tank, especially compared to Max.
"Both of the bedrooms and bathroom is upstairs." Lauren led the way up the narrow, overly noisy steps to the bedrooms. "They're both the same size, so it doesn't matter who gets what."
Darius nodded his head and brought my things to the one at the end of the hallway.
"We'll take the one closer to the stairs. That way I'll hear if those loud ass steps squeak." Darius opened the other bedroom for he and his husband.
"Oh, once it hits ten p.m. the whole house locks down. If someone touches those stairs without typing the code into the panel both the pool house and the main house go on lockdown. The code is the same one to my headquarters office. There are also Glocks in each bedside table. Just don't shoot each other and all will be fine." Lauren patted Darius's shoulder.
Max winced at the thought of having a gun. I've heard stories of Max at a shooting range, and none of them had a happy ending.
"What's the code?" I looked between Max and Lauren, knowing both of them knew it.
"Thirty-four fifteen fifty." Both Lauren and Max answered me.
"Does that have some kind of importance?" I tilted my head to the side.
"It came like that and I didn't have the time or patience to change it." Lauren answered honestly.
"Lazy ass." Max mumbled under his breath, but it didn't go unnoticed by Lauren, and she shoved his shoulder.
"Hey, be nice." I frowned at her violent tendencies. "No shoving. It isn't nice."
"Right, I'm sorry." Lauren apologized to me. "I forgot that it triggers you. Despite how annoying Max is, I promise to do my best to refrain from punting him over a fence."
Max rolled his eyes and walked down the stairs and his husband followed with a chuckle.
"Come on, little one." Lauren teased me over her shoulder.
"Who are you calling little?" I gawked at her as she walked into our room. "I'm only two inches shorter than you!"
"Still shorter!" Lauren yelled.
I huffed and scuffed my feet to our room. "Don't make me regret staying with you."
Lauren chuckled and shook her head. "You won't regret a thing, hermosa. You can have half of the closet and half of the dresser."
"Oh, I don't need the closet. I don't require much." I unpacked my one bag with clothing into a single drawer in the dresser.
"The clothes Max is ordering will change that. Trust me." Lauren walked ip behind me and wrapped her arms around my waist to hug me from behind. "Do you feel safe here?"
"I trust you to keep me safe." I leaned my head back to rest it on her shoulder.
"Good." She kissed my temple and pulled away. "Let's get food in you."
"Can I nap first?" I gave her a cheesy smile.
"You are tired because you haven't eaten. You told me you would eat." Lauren gave me a look.
