Veronica locked herself in the bathroom stall and slid down the wall exhausted. She didn’t know what to do. She didn’t who to trust she didn’t know how to tell others. How will she drop the bomb on jughead that there’s a high chance that her father could be released early?
She couldn’t clear her head at all. She hasn’t even slept for a few days. Its like her mind is on overdrive.
“good news Veronica, your father can be released early!” Hermione said to veronica as she saw her coming into the apartment.
Hearing that, dread filled Veronica. Her father getting early release? Heck he should have been put in for longer. “what why?” she asked
Her mother frowned at her daughter’s reaction “aren’t you happy mija?” she questioned
Veronica laughed. “are you hearing yourself? He’s the guy who was responsible for many people losing their jobs. He’s the guy who was responsible for innocent families to go bankrupt and lose their home. He’s the guy who was responsible for people to throw curses at us. He’s the one responsible for us to lose our home in New York and take refugee in Riverdale. After doing all this, how are you ready to welcome him back in your life?”
“mija. This is not how you saw your father when we first came here. Have faith in your father” Hermione replied
“you’re right. I used to stand by him. I didn’t believe anything others used to say about him. I stood by him like a fool mom. Until I saw him for what he really is. A mobster. A bad man mom. And after my eyes opened I cant see him as before. And I cant believe how you can do it” veronica said. She was getting emotional.
“Ronnie, he’s your father. You should remember that he loved you. And he still does. You’re probably the only person in the whole world he wouldn’t hurt or betray” her mother said caringly trying to convince veronica
“I don’t need that! I don’t want him in my life. I don’t want him out of jail. I don’t want him in riverdale where for once I feel safe and happy. I don’t need him to ruin all of this” veronica cried
“Veronica!! I have been patient with you from the start and all youre doing is tarnishing your father’s name. I want you to clear your head, because this is happening . he is coming home” her mother said sternly
“I don’t need you to be patient with me. I want you to do the correct thing for once. Youre having an affair with Mr. Andrews, you forged my signatures, and now youre allowing dad back into our life.” Veronica said
“the lawyer will be coming in an hour. I expect you to be here dressed n with proper manners” her mother told her looking away.
Veronica scoffed and went in her room. She couldn’t believe what was happening. Weren’t there enough troubles in her life right now. She wasn’t going to sign any document or give a testimony on his behalf . let the lawyer come come. She’s also a lodge. She wont backdown.
And as expected, the lawyer tried to convince her of signing the papers which stated him to be good father and that he was a good man, but she refused profusely.
“your father won’t like this” the lawyer warned veronica
“why what would he do? Hurt me too?” veronica challenged
“Miss Veronica, pleases reconsider, or the next time we meet I would be having a message from your father addressed to you” the lawyer again said
“I wont sign the papers. I refuse” veronica said adamantly.
Her mother just looked at her daughter is anger and disappointment. She couldn’t believe what veronica was doing. “veronica, as your mother I am telling you to sign those papers”
“and if I don’t? what would you do? Forge my signature?” veronica said, whispering the last part to her.
Hermione glared at veronica and backed off. “im sorry, it seems she has made up her mind and refuses to listen to me”
The lawyer nodded and left.
“young lady, do you want to get in trouble with your father?he is your father, you should want him to come back to us and for us to be a family again.”
“he’s no longer my family. And up until few days ago you were my family but not now. It seems youre ready to forgive father for his mistakes, but im not. So you two can be a family again, but pleases don’t try to include me in it” veronica said and went to her room
Did the lawyer just threaten me? Veronica thought. She scoffed. He works for her father, obviously, there was no line drawn between right and wrong for him. but there was no way that she would be signing anything that would help in release of her father.
She laid down and thought about everything. Jason’s murder, her mother’s felony, her affair with Fred Andrews and now her father’s release. She mentally groaned. Are there already less troubles in her life? She didn’t even know how would jughead react to all this. Will he even believe her that she has nothing to do with Hiram’s release? With their past history, she had a feeling he won’t. he already finds it difficult to trust her, let alone what he says. He’s broken her trust enough times, so how can she believe when he says he trusts her now? When he gave the same reason everytime?
Does she have to be alone all the time? She thought. She didn’t have one single person with whom she could place her trust on. Not her mother, not betty, not archie and not jughead.

She shook her head, as if trying get out of her trance, as she sat on the washroom floor in school, she wanted the past few days to be erased. As if they could. A light voice in her said.
She sighs and hopes that jughead isn’t looking for her anymore. She wants to be alone. She needs space right now. She wouldn’t have even come to school, if she didn’t already feel suffocated at her own home, hearing her mother order her to sign the papers for releasing hiram.
She got up and dusted herself and got out, and quietly exited the room, to head for the exit. She’s already missed 2 of her classes, so how does it matter if she just skips all classes today she thought, as she had the strong urge to just run away. Away, from here, away from her family, away from her so called friends, away from riverdale. She even hated the fact that because of this situation she even doubts her friendship with jughead.
But she knows she can’t. there are a lot of wrongs her family has done to this town. Someone has to clean up the mess their family has made, and she knows, it has to be her. She can’t run away from her problems, running away has never been a forte for Veronica. After all, she could be anything, but never a quitter, never a coward.
