It started out as just another day in Veronica's life, well aside from betty and archie. Get up, head to school, hanging out with jughead. she was finally starting to feel like she was just an ordinary girl with a normal life. she could almost forget her father's mishaps. Almost.
The thought of her father always grounded her, to always be prepared for any worse situation that could cone her way. But in no way was she prepared for what would happen next.
As as soon as she came home, the first thing that surprised her was that no one was home. She curiously went around until she found a note saying she will be with Fred Andrews in the construction site. For a minute she just stood there. Why is she with Fred? What is her father upto now? Fred Andrews was a good man. One of the most purest soul in Riverdale. She couldn't let her messed up family ruin Fred. She quickly made her way out of the pembrooke and headed to Andrews construction site.
She was almost near the site where a small shed was present when she stopped in shock at what she saw through the window.
Fred and her mother. Kissing. She couldn't believe her eyes. What the hell was her mother doing? She thought and quickly turned back to go back to pembrooke.
She was trying to understand what she saw. Did her mother love fred? But she's married for god's sake! And to Hiram lodge. He could ruin fred. Didn't her mother understand that?
After all wasn't she the one who told her that her father had eyes everywhere? And that no one could go behind his back? So what is she thinking?
She dreaded the thought that her mother was doing it to use Fred into father's schemes. But what would that achieve?
She knows her father bought the drive in, does he need to build something new that fred could construct and with less pay? Shit, if that's true then her mother was manipulating fred to bid her actions.
She felt utter despair at the last thought. Could her mother really stoop that low? She tried convincing herself that her mother wouldn't do this. But it was hard. It was so hard. A few months ago, she would have just shook her head and said no my parents won't do that. But now, everything's changed. And so has she. But still. She felt a glimmer of hope thinking maybe i am wrong. And how she wished that it was true.
Should she confront her mother or just wait until she confesses it herself? She decided to give her mother 2 days to tell her the truth. If her actions are innocent, she wouldn't mind telling me. But if not, then her suspicion would be proven correct.
The next day came and went and Veronica was left waiting her mother to come out clean and was left disappointed. And on the second day was what went hell.
"Veronica, i need you to sign these documents" her mother said as she came in her room.
"What documents? Why do you need my signature?" Veronica asked suspiciously
"Don't look at me like that Veronica. Its not anything you need to worry about. These just state that the construction of the lodge building in place of the drive in is given to the Andrews construction" her mother said.
Veronica was shocked. "What but why?"
"Oh come on Veronica, fred needs the work and money and we're getting it for a good price" her mother said
"Oh my god. So that's why! You manipulated fred into agreeing to this! How could you? How can you let a man like fred come into association with the likes of hiram lodge! You know what has happened to his previous partners." Veronica said angrily
"Veronica! How could you say that?" Hermione said
"Oh correct me if i am wrong weren't you the ine serenading fred at the construction site? And don't lie i saw you two making out" Veronica said
"It has nothing to do with that!" Her mother said
"Don't you dare lie anymore mom. If you're telling the truth look me in the eyes and say you never had a thought of using fred to build whatever dad has planned" Veronica said adamantly.
Hermione looked down. Veronica just looked frustrated. "See, i wont be signing these papers. I will not let you drag Fred Andrews into father's evil schemes" Veronica said.
As she was about to leave her mother held her arm and said "i do love Fred Veronica. It wasn't all a plan"
Veronica shook of her hand and told her "if you loved him you wouldn't be dragging him into this. And don't try to convince yourself that by doing this you're helping him. Coz trust me you aren't" saying that she left the room.
The next day she saw fred happily telling everyone that he got the deal and that it was because of Hermione saying she was his lady luck. Veronica was left shocked at what was happening. Her mother gave her a look and took fred outside while Veronica was left pondering.
Her mother wouldn't. No. She wouldn't do that. But there was no other way.
Her mother had forged her signatures.
