Chapter 44

"Veronica? please say something?" jughead said nervous, he could see that Veronica was shocked.

Jughead likes her. he likes her. What? he liked Betty right? when did this happen? this can't be happening. these thoughts were running in her mind throughout. she didn't expect this at all. how the hell is she supposed to react? I don't know what I feel!! she thought distraught over this situation.

"I-uh, I-uh, uh, Thank you?" Veronica muttered out. she could clearly see the hurt that flashed on his face. It pained her to see her being the cause of Jughead's pain. She couldn't look in his eyes. she just couldn't. She cant see the betrayal, the look of hurt and anger in jughead's eyes for her. " I, I gotta go" she said as she quickly turned away to rush out of there.

jughead was left hurt, speechless. "Veronica wait!" he managed to say, but she was already gone by the time he turned to try to stop her. He confessed to her, out of nowhere, he couldn't stop beating himself over it. He knew he totally sprung that out of nowhere to her. She's barely coping right now, an he had to go and blurt out his feelings for her at that time. she must be thinking that she couldn't face him, since she broke his heart. Bit he didn't confess to her, expecting a response, he just wanted to tell her, not expecting anything in return. he would still be her friend, no matter what.

She blanked out. She didnt know why she ran. But she did. It was like fear just took over, and turned and rushed out. What the hell? She thought. Jughead likes her. Jughead LIKES her??? Oh god. Oh my god. Veronica thought.

He likes her. And she just ran away from him.

Could the situation be any worse? She groaned.

She couldnt process anything. She hasnt yet recovered from her family trauma, and now she has to shoulder the burden of hurting jughead as well. Why did she run away? Just why? She thought.

She herself couldnt understand why she did what she did. she couldnt understand anything. Would Jughead even talk to her now? He was her one true friend and she just broke his heart. She didnt mean to, she tried to justify herself, while trying to deal with her inner turmoil. She didnt even think about her feelings. Did she like him too? She had never even thought of a situation where jughead ended up liking her. She always thought he wasnt over betty yet. Betty. Didnt he like her since he was a kid? She was his childhood love. And now suddenly he likes her? She couldnt understand how it all happened.

All this time. She thought that he was pining after betty, but in reality he was moving on from her? Well, now that she thinks about it, she was glad he was moving on from Betty, since she knew that Betty would never see Jughead in that way. She loves Archie way too much. But the last thing she wanted was Jughead to face heartbreak again. And yet, she did exactly that. In fact she chose the cowardly way out. She ran away. She didnt face him. She didnt reply and ran. How hurt and confused he must be feeling. She thought as she felt despair, regretting her actions profoundly.

Meanwhile, with Jughead, he was feeling dejected. He had already imagined confessing to veronica, and had went through different scenarios of her rejecting him. But never in any scenario did he imagine Veronica running away. He didnt know what to feel.one moment he told her he likes her, and the next moment he sees veronica turning and running away.

Did he frighten her? Damn. He was too sudden. Maybe it was too soon? Ughhh! His head was killing him. Heck she wasnt ready to hear it. He knew that. Obviously she wouldnt be fine. She just faced through a lot of family drama, and he just added more to her plate. Why did he confess? Just why?

She must be so confused right now. He thought. Should he look for her? He thought. But quickly shook that thought away. he already did enough. He should give her space.

All the while, thinking about veronica, the sudden hurt came in. It didnt change the fact that he confessed and she ran away from his confession. Was this a rejection? This felt worse than rejection. She didnt even say anything. Maybe he was meant to be alone. He fell in love with betty, and she loved his best friend. He fell in love with veronica, and she just ran away from him. Maybe he was meant to be a loner all his life. he didnt know when he fell for her, it was so natural. And he knew. She was the one. That person, his person. And maybe he was not that for her. She always hid her pain from him. She kept all her pain to herself. Maybe he should have taken this as a sign, maybe she didnt trust him. She didnt feel the same way. He fell for betty first, but he fell harder for Veronica. It was so easy. And it is so hard, to just let her go. How can he? She showed him the true meaning of love. She made it seem that it was easy to let go of Betty. The girl he never could the heart of. She made him believe he was enough. Just like how she made betty understand to put herself first, she did the same for him.

Maybe if he hadnt confessed, at least he would have veronica as a friend. Maybe, he would have liked that better, as if he never confessed and just lived loving her in the shadows. He could have lived happily knowing she was happy. But he had to go and ruin that.
