-Carmin-

I wrapped my arms around Jamie as he sobbed into my chest.

"Jamie, I'll try. I promise," I spoke.

I only got to see him for a few minutes before he scrambled to get the hair dye and leave.

Three hours went by and I felt my phone vibrate. Picking it up, I noticed that it was a number that was not programmed into my phone.

"Hello?" I questioned.

"Hello. May I speak to Carmin Hicks?" A woman asked from the other line?

"This is he."

"I have reviewed your application for Hamburger Mary's and I am pleased to say that you have gotten the job! You will need to come in next Wednesday. Your shift is from four in the afternoon to eight at night."

"Alright! Thank you! I'll see you then," I said before she hung up. Smiling I waltzed over to my couch and sat down. 'Now I can finally start paying rent on time,' I enthused. As I was laying there, I pulled may phone out and called Jamie.

"Hello?" A booming voice questioned on the other end of the line. I knew it couldn't have been Jamie.

"May I speek to Jamie?"

"Why? Who is this?"

"I am a friend of his. I just wanted to tell him something."

"Obviously, but unfortunately, Jamie is indisposed at the moment." Sighing at the obvious lie, I opened my mouth and asked, " when will he be available?" No answer. Taking my phone from my ear, I noticed that he had hung up.

-Jamie-

"Your 'friend' just called," Kriss harshly spat, tossing my phone onto the love seat.

"Carmin? What did he say?"

"It's none of your business. I dealt with it. Do not speak to him again."

"You can't tell me who I can and cannot talk to, Kriss."

"Yes, I can."

"Whatever," I lowly said, crossing my arms and looking down as I sat on the couch.

"Jamie, look at me please," Kriss sweetly said, sitting beside of me.

"Stop, Kriss." I knew what he was going to do. It was what he always does after we fight. He gives me a little empathy and then kisses me, trying to make me love him when I know deep inside that I do not. I hate him.

"Jamie, I love you. Please?" He finally said, gently making me face him as he planted a kiss on my lips. It made me feel sick to my stomach to kiss the man I hate. I can remember when he actually made me feel like I was worth something. We met in high school. I was a Senior and he was a freshman in college. My friend introduced us at a little high school party. Kriss and I hit it off quick and soon we were dating. He was probably the nicest guy I had ever met, but no, that was all an act. Once we bought a house together, he became abusive and dominant. For the first few months he wouldn't let me leave. I was kept locked in the basement while he worked. That was until I decided that I would endure it and not run away from him.

Once he trusted me enough, he let me go wherever and do whatever I pleased, withing boundaries. He, somehow, put a tracker in my phone and my car. I doubt he has one in me, but he might in all of my clothes. Any time I buy new clothes, he takes them out of the bag when I am not looking and takes them to the bathroom.

He and I have been together for five years now. It's agonizing. It's painful. It's hell. I want to get away from him but everywhere I go, he knows. He has ruined my life completely. If it were not for him, I would be studying to become a lawyer. Instead, I am a college dropout that works at a god forsaken coffee shop on the weekends.

"Kriss, I am going to go to Hamburger Mary's." I said, breaking the silence that had fallen between us.

"I'll come with you."

"You do-."

"I insist," he cut me off.

"F-fine."

As we sat at the bar, I talked to Rett about a few things, nothing big in particular.

"Did you know that Carmin kid got your old job?" Rett inquired.

"No I did not! Really? What day does he start?"

"Jamie, I don't think you need to be asking those kinds of questions," Kriss spoke.

"He starts next Wednesday," Rett said, ignoring Kriss.

"Rett, did you not hear me?"

"His shift is from four to-," by this time Kriss stood up and tried to throw a punch at Rett.  Big mistake on Kriss' part. Rett used to be a police officer before he messed his leg up. He is the type of guy you would want to thing twice about fighting.

Rett took the hand that Kriss threw the punch with and slammed it on the table, making Kriss let out a small yelp. I stood there in awe at what had just happened.

"Kriss, leave." Rett said, letting go of his arm.

"Fine. Jamie, come." Kriss snapped as he started for the door. Looking at Rett and then back at Kriss, I sighed, standing up to follow.

"Jamie-," I cut Rett off with a shake of my head and walked out with Kriss.

Ew. That chapter was crap. Whatever. I will try and update again today.
