Return Of The Queen

Chapter 3

                 The Mysterious Child

Brannon had awoken early with the intention to pick out fresh food from the field and have it ready for when his wife returned from the kingdom. After picking the fresh fruits he proceeded to boil water for tea as well a bath for  Micah .

Once the bath was drawn he awoke the 2 year old as gently as he could and greeted him with a wide smile and a soft voice , after a few seconds the toddler lit up with joy and reached for his father .

Meanwhile Lyla was entering the village in a rush as the child began to grow paler every minute , she rode the fastest she ever could to get home where all her supplies were so she could properly care for the infant .

Upon the hasty loud thudding of the stallion , Brannon instantly felt something was wrong , he put Micah down and ran out to meet his wife as she stopped before him and rushed into the house begging for him to retrieve her supplies . Without questioning he did so as he feared she was hurt but soon came to realize what was happening as she placed a tiny bairn wrapped in her coat and a blanket upon the bed . He was utterly stunned by this but decided to question her later as he saw the state the baby was in , he helped her with whatever she needed as she rushed to bring some colour back to it's face .

After a dreadful half hour Lyla gave the child herbs to sleep as Brannon waited outside and watched over Micah who innocently played with his wooden horse unaware of the situation that just took place .

The other local physician arrived to help Lyla along with a few villagers as word spread of Lyla's discovery. As she walked out the villagers crowded her , all trying to understand what happend , "Who's child is that ?"
"Where are the supplies from the kingdom?"
"What happened?"
"Is the child alive?"

Lyla firmly raised her hand and slowly answered each question as Brannon listened carefully just as bewildered as the rest of the villagers.

"I do not know who the child belongs to nor do I know exactly what happened , I arrived at the kingdom and saw destruction and burnt bodies littering the streets , I heard something so I wandered to see where it was coming from . I found the baby crying in a basket in the center of the courtyard . Her name is Serephina and yes thankfully she is alive , that is all I know i swear to you."

Shock and worry could be seen on all the peoples faces , unsure of what to do or say next Lyla looked at her Husband for aid , he quickly recovered from his shock , picked up Micah and approached his wife handing the child over to her . He faced the villagers and began to reassure them that there is no imminent danger and he will , along with any volunteers , venture into the kingdom later on to investigate and look for any survivors .

The villagers agreed and left to get supplies as they would leave in an hour . The small family went back into their home as the physician left , they stared upon the sleeping bairn , completely mystified by her.
