Reconnecting

Kara was watching house hunting shows, I put on a shirt and sat next to her. 

"Don't let me sleep next time"
"You look like you could use a few more hours"
"It's hard to sleep when you get nightmares"
"Yeah, I bet, you wanna tell me about what happened in the nightmares"
"At your funeral, Alex blamed me, I blamed me, then she slapped me. I've had worse dreams"
"Why did you blame yourself"
"You only died because Savitar wanted to hurt me"
"Im sorry, I wish you wouldn't have nightmares"
"Me too, on the bright side, before that I dreamt of us coming home from dinner, Our daughter was about six, Alex was watching her. The second we came in Nora ran over and hugged me, She had the stuffed animal I got her at the arcade. I told her how I beat you in all the games."
"That sounds amazing"
"How do you do it?"
"Do what"
"How are you together right now, I'm a mess."
"I'm not sure, all I'm thinking about is how to help you and the baby. Speaking of, we can get the sonogram to find out the gender today"
"Let's do it then"
"We can in a few hours, let's keep watching TV"
"Alright Mrs. Therapist"

    Kara giggled and turned back towards the tv, leaning against me. A few hours later we got dressed. "You ready?" She asked. "As I'll ever be," I said and we walked out. I carried her to the DEO. Alex took us to a more private section of the medbay and did the sonogram. "Congratulations, you're having a daughter," Alex said, letting out a tear of happiness. "See you soon little Nora" Kara said. "I'll leave you two" Alex said and left. I held Kara's hand. "You look happy," Kara said. "I am very happy," I replied. Another hour later me and Kara were back home. We spent the day together and then went to bed.

    I woke up the next morning, I didn't wake Kara, I wrote a note. "Taking a personal day, call if you need anything" I wrote and then left, I ran to central city, because I wanted to visit my old church. I walked in, and went to talk to the old pastor. "Hello" I said, he looked up. "Jason?" He asked. "The one and only" I confirmed. "Wow, you've grown" He said and hugged me. "I know I just got back to the central city, moved away" I said, I talked about more with him and walked out. "Jason?" He asked, I turned, "Thank you for your service" He said. I nodded and walked outz surprised he knew I went to the army. I hadn't been here since I was eleven.

    I sat in the room. Halfway through the music I thought two things: Why did I come here, and I wish Kara was here. The music finished and Bob went up. "Now, before we get started, an old member here has returned, and I'd like to invite him to say a few words, Jason, can you get up here?" He asked and I walked to the altar.

"Hi, some of you may not know me, or remember me, but I'm Jason Morgan. Last time I was here I was eleven. As you know, I stopped coming when my mom died. Didn't have much say in that, I went to the army, came back and became a detective. Then I got put into a coma. I woke up and my girlfriend was cheating on me, so I moved to National City. I should've come back sooner, especially after my dad died too, but I need a favor, I learned some news about my future, which means I'm not gonna be there for my wife and daughter on the way. I don't have a say in it, but I could use prayers, the wisdom and the strength to carry out the task put in front of me. That'd be great if you don't mind"

    Pastor Bob came out his hand on my shoulder, he prayed for me and then I sat down. The sermon finished and I saw my mom's old friend. "Freedom, that you?" I asked, She saw me. "Jason, my god you've grown" She hugged me.

"What brings you back?"
"I'm not sure honestly"
"I'm glad to have you, did you say you were married earlier."
"Yeah, I got married to an amazing girl, were gonna have a kid, but, i'm not gonna be able to be there for that"
"Well why not?"
"I have a responsibility at my job, lives are on the line, I'll be away from home"
"Im so sorry"
"No its fine, i've got time before, so I'm spending it with Kara"
"Is Kara her name, where is she anyways"
"Yeah, Kara's at home"
"I wish I could've met her"
"Maybe next time, I actually have to go though"
"Alright, Bye."
"Bye"

    I left and once I got far enough away I ran home after grabbing lunch to bring home for Kara. I walked in and she was on the couch. "There you are" She said, getting up and kissing me. "Hey, yeah, I just needed to do something," I said and we sat down.

"So where'd you go"
"My old church, haven't been there since I was eleven"
"I would have come with you"
"Next time, I wanted to go alone today"
"You seem a bit different"
"Just got to see some old friends, how was your morning"
"It was okay, I slept in, watched tv, all that"
"Nice"
