The beginning of mankind was rocky, and occurred roughly seven million years ago- with the discovery of primitive magic following soon after. Although it was not believed in all quantities, nearly seven million years later in the year 1999, with the first spike mages beginning to emerge. These spike mages had existed long before the 90s with their prowess being mostly suppressed by their primitive brain and values.
Once the 2040s were hit, they began to emerge one by one in the largest countries- with their governments foolishly using them by 2045 as a means to attempt to win "World War Three" however, this event ended on the low spectrum on the spike mages and ended up destroying themselves as a result of war and over usage of their powers. Overall the sacrifices these powerful beings made for the world were hard to comprehend and were generally glossed over by all of the nations who took credit for the work they had done to put the world back together through infighting, with a resounding failure being the result.
By the end of the war, their home land of Germany was also devastated and ended up splitting once again into East and West Germany after the failures of the European Union. More infighting followed, more, more, more... until there was all but one remaining, who soon after passed away due to extensive power usage and injury- their pushions and psions were no more.
Forgotten. Just like that.
There was no more fuss until the 2070s, where the Eastern Germans began to attempt to recreate spike mages after the discovery of ancient markings and sigils- pointing towards ways to make people into spike mages. Their government began to move to replicate these beings by using orphaned children; the process caused unimaginable pain for those being turned into what the Eastern Germans dubbed "Jaegers".
By the year of 2080, after a full decade of failures which more often than not mangled the children, if not outright killed them, there was one success. This success was Hiro Haruyama, alias "Reaper" within the East German government, with his real name being "Mattias Kruger".
Shortly after gaining these powers he was put to work to attempt to harness these new powers, in order for them to gain a possible strategic-class magician- each and every doctor advised against continuing with the boy until one had deviated and been branded a full criminal after about nine years of research on the boy. This man was the one who eventually saved the life of Mattias, who would eventually be known as the "Jaeger" and then as "Hiro". As soon as he had escaped, he had been told to run as far away as possible and try to find someone who would take him to Japan; it is true that they would take advantage of his powers for their own gain however, it is also significantly true that he would be much safer there and treated much better than the East Germans had done.
Those who he had found were taking small trips outside of the country- that being the Saegusa family. His scrappy and ratty appearance gave off an allure, one that showed hardship, pain, and even struggle, which is why he was taken with them back to Japan.
The Saegusa were known for their innate abilities as intelligence officers and more often than not covert operations soldiers- as to which they had to smuggle Mattias outside of the country. Upon return to Japan he was treated like one of their own and soon enough was given the name of "Hiro Haruyama", with the cover story being that he was adopted from a Japanese orphanage.
His limited ability to use what the Japanese defined as "magic" caused uproar within the early formation of the ten master clans- as to which these were quickly shot down by the then head of the Saegusa, Kouichi Saegusa. The conditions of Mattias' adoption was that his name be changed to something more Japanese, and his name not be that of the Saegusa. Mayumi Saegusa, Kasumi Saegusa, and Izumi Saegusa, were all introduced as his sisters from then on out living with them. "Mattias Kruger" had died that day, the pain, suffering, and tears- all dried away and replaced with "Hiro Haruyama".
Hiro was by all means, not a normal child, as his ability to process things were higher than average- even the Saegusa couldn't believe it with their ten master clans status. The unintended side effects of making Hiro a spike mage was the fact that he was quite literally a superhuman to an extent. This rivaled the likes of the Yotsuba, the strongest of clans, Tatsuya Shiba- with power that could literally tear apart an entire nation when absolutely necessary.
Through the next few years of 2089 through the year of 2094, it was observed that he was reaching top marks within the middle school that he was at; and it was advised by Kouichi who he saw as "Father" for him to attend the First Magic High School. Hiro was one of those people who liked to stay near his family and protect him; which mainly drives from his now spike mage personality.

"Congratulations and welcome, Hiro!" Mayumi looked at him with a smile, and gave him a sisterly hug. Hiro only smiled back and then set the letter of his acceptance onto his desk as he walked away. His placement was in the second course due to the less mastered practical application of his powers. Though this was only the beginning he felt... the beginning of a life that will push him to his limits physically, emotionally, and psychologically. All that mattered now to him, was the lives of those who were close to him.
This is where the story begins, and this is where it will inevitably end.
