He kissed me again, his thumbs rubbing circles on my waist. I grinned against his lips and wrapped my arms around his neck, inching him closer.
"Brooklyn," he said, pulling away from me. He was three centimeters away, but I almost didn't let him get that far.
"Yeah?"
"Your mom just pulled in the driveway." I groaned and scooted off of Colton's lap. I turned on the television and flipped back to "Bad Grandpa".
"I'm gonna have to greet her outside." I said, fluffing my hair and standing.
"Why?"
"So I have a reason to be flushed." Colton grinned and pulled me down into his lap.
"Aren't I reason enough?" I giggled, pushing at his chest. Colton tightened his grip on my waist, trapping me on top of him.
"Colton," I protested, smacking his hard chest. "You know mom doesn't like it when she catches us." Colton frowned.
"Doesn't she like me?" Colton's eyes grew sad and my heart aches.
"She just doesn't know you that well." I tucked a stray piece of hair behind my ear, leaning in to kiss him.
"Hello, Colton." Mom's voice rang through the living room. I whipped around, or I turned around as fast as I could while sitting on someone's lap.
"Hey Mom, where's Bailey?" I slipped Colton's arms from around my waist and stood up. Colton shot up once I stood up and then sat back down after Mom shot him a glare.
"She's with Cameron. He's such a nice boy, taking sign language classes so they can talk fluently." I forced a smile and followed Mom into the kitchen. Colton followed behind me and I reached back, searching for his hand. Colton's hand was clammy and I squeezed it, hoping it would reassure him. Colton squeezed back, his grip firm.
"Well, bye Collin." Mom buried her head in her purse and Colton smiled shyly, slinking out of the room.
"It's Colton, Ms. Matthews." Mom waved her hand. I followed Colton out of the room. He grabbed his coat and I slid in front of him before he left.
"I'm sorry about Mom, she just-" Colton shook his head, smiling. He wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me to him.
"It's okay princess. I'll see you tomorrow?" I nodded. Colton pecked me on the lips, his gray eyes dark. I shoved his blonde mop of hair out of his face.
"I really like you, you you that right?" Colton nodded and I leaned in for one last kiss.
Mom poked her head into the living room. "Brooklyn, can you come in here for a sec?" I groaned, slipping out of Colton's grasp.
"Tomorrow?"
"Tomorrow." Colton slid out the door and I watched him go until I could no longer see his headlights.
I stomped into the kitchen, making Mom look up from the stove. "Why are you so mean to him?"
Mom looked up, her expression guarded. "He's not worthy of you."
I shook my head. "That's for me to decide, not you."
"I don't know what you see in him." Mom ran her hands through her red dyed hair and turned towards me.
"Well, you're not me!" Mom sighed, sitting down in a chair.
"I'm just looking out for you."
"I can look out for myself. Taylor was a mistake, I knew that knew. Colton is different."
