Taylor:

I clenched jaw, trying desperately not to touch Brooklyn. Her hands were clenched in her lap, earbuds shoved in her ears. She was bobbing her head along to a mystery song. Every now and then Brooklyn would sneak a glance at me, her hair sliding to cover half of her face. I ached for her. I wanted to hear her laugh. I wanted . . . well, her.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" Matt asked, turning around in his seat.

"Nothing. Keep your eyes on the road."

"It's a red light. And I know something's wrong because you haven't talked for like an hour." I chuckled, leaning back in the seat. Brooklyn fell over, her earbud falling out of her ear. I nudged her head back up. She slept silently, her face illuminated by the passing street lights. I watched her. Wow, Edward Cullen much?

"Oh." Matt turned back around. "So, what happened?"

"Nothing, Matt." Matt raised his eyebrows in the mirror, his gaze becoming critical. "Nothing important anyway." Matt grinned.

"So I was right. What 'unimportant thing' happened between you B?" Matt stared at me through the mirror again. Brooklyn shifted, leaning her head on my shoulder. I swept her hair out of her eyes. "You kissed her! Dumbass move dude."

"I didn't kiss her." I said, avoiding Matt's withering gaze. "And even if I did . . . Why would that be a 'dumbass move?"

"Her boyfriend is crazy. He punched you already, remember?" I chuckled. Brooklyn sat up groggily.

"Who's crazy?" She asked. Her voice was hoarse.

"Colton." Matt answered. She sighed and rubbed the sleep from her eyes.

"He's not crazy, he's just . . . protective?" She giggled. I clenched my jaw, her presence was . . . tempting.

"Yeah, well there's something wrong with your other boyfriend. Mind checking up on him for me?" Brooklyn frowned, her face scrunching up. Slowly her faced relaxed and she smiled shyly, turning towards me.

"First of all, he's not my boyfriend. And second of all he does kinda look depressed." She touched my hand. "You okay?" Her voice was soft and reassuring. I nodded and pulled my hand out from under hers. She smiled sadly, her eyes glassing over. Her phone buzzed and she slid it out of her pocket, smiling at the screen.

Brooklyn held the phone up to her ear. "Hey Colton. How's Florida?" The smile disappeared from her face. "What are you talking about?" She pushed her hair out of her face. "He would never . . . " She blinked away tears. "F**k you." She hung up, throwing the phone against the back of the passenger seat.

"Who was that?" Matt asked, pulling over to the side of road.

"My boyfriend's girlfriend." My eyes widened. I reached over, patting Brooklyn on the back. She sighed.

"Does he know you know?"

"No." I felt so bad for her. She had to pretend that she didn't know about her boyfriend cheating. "Matt keep driving." She leaned against the window, tears streaming silently down her cheeks.

"Geez, are you blind? This is your house." Matt turned around to face her. "You'll be okay?" She nodded, opening her door.

"I'll walk with you." She smiled and stepped out of the car.

"Wait a little while, dude." Matt nodded and I stepped out of the car into the sticky night.

We walked up her front steps, finally reaching the door. "Thank you, Taylor." She whispered.

"For what?"

"Everything." I smiled. "Now you know why I kissed you back."

"Good, now I don't have to feel so guilty."

"Why?" Brooklyn leaned against the porch railing.

I stepped closer and bent so that my lips touched the side of her ear. "For wanting you." She shivered and gasped as my hands gripped her hips, pulling her closer. She slipped her hands onto my shoulders, making me gasp audibly. I rubbed her hips slowly, pulling her closer so there was no space between us. I pressed my hands against the small of her back, sliding them down to her waist. My thumbs stroked the exposed skin just above her shorts. I swooped down to devour her lips with mine. Her kiss was hungry, my hands squeezing her hips gently. Brooklyn bit back a cry as I dragged my mouth down her cheek, moving to her neck.

She squeezed my shoulders, pushing me away. "I'll, uh see you l-later." Her breath hitched as she slipped into her house. I ran my hands through my hair, breathing deep. I felt an ache for her clutching at my chest, but I pushed it away. Brooklyn was taken.
