I had been right. Things didn't become better, instead, they got worse. Much worse.
Walking into the loud hall for breakfast, everything became oddly silent as I walked in. Hushed whispered scurried around the room. No longer hungry I walked out feeling several eyes on me as I left. I went to the whomping willow and sat in the branches. Surprisingly the tree didn't try doing anything to me. It let me onto its longest branch and lifted me out of reach, and sight.
I must have fallen asleep sometime after that as when I woke up the sky had brightened to a noon sky. Though I was hungry, I didn't want to go back to the dining hall with what had happened earlier. The other branches were moving wildly. I looked down and saw Hagrid trying to get to me without getting crushed by the tree. I climbed down and went over to him. The tree stopped and stood just as still as it had before I fell asleep. Hagrid hugged me laughing.
"I heard what ya did to mister Draco. Smart kid ya are. Want some tea? Ya look like yer half starved." He started off towards his hut. "Why did ya skip yer breakfast? Ya feelin' okay?"
"I guess I just wasn't all that hungry..." I mumbled.
"Well, I'll get ya somethin' ta eat." He opened the door and led me inside. "I brought yer little friends here fer ya."
Shadow and October ran up to me and leaped into my arms purring loudly. I smiled softly at them and sat down.
"Ya want some tea?" Hagrid asked putting a kettle over the fire in the fireplace.
"No, I'll have some hot chocolate though," I answered.
"Are you feeling okay Ailouros?" Shadow meowed to me as she searched for any injuries.
"I'm fine Shadow. Just tired of people." I meowed back.
Hagrid set a large mug of delicious-smelling hot chocolate in front of me. I took a sip and sighed contentedly.
October started to play with my silver oak leaf necklace and I softly smiled at him.
"So Lupin is teachin' ya yer school t'day now?" Hagrid asked taking his own seat. Fang was hiding under Hagrid's chair glancing uneasily at the cats on my lap. I nodded in response to the question sipping more of my hot chocolate. "I won' tell no one if ya came to my care o magical creatures class t'day."
I smiled at him. "No worries. I'll be watching from the sidelines... That way Malfoy can't rat me out for being there."
"A'righty then. Ya best be off before long. No doubt Lupin will want ya to be there where ya ran out at breakfast." Hagrid said smiling at me.
I nodded and drank the rest of my hot cocoa "Okay, thanks Hagrid."
With that, he leads me back up to the castle and up to Lupin's room where he was waiting for me.
"Ailouros, I saved you some breakfast," Lupin said standing as he saw me.
"Thanks, Lupin. So what are we going over first?" I replied with a respectful nod.
"Don't worry about that quite yet Ailouros. Eat something first." He handed me a plate of fresh fruit, cereal, and hashbrowns with ground beef mixed into it.
I ate as he taught me what I had missed in the past few months. Amaterasu and I had missed Christmas, Valentine's Day, and some other events. I didn't mind really because I had been happy with the rangers and was able to celebrate the holidays with them. I had felt at home laughing with Am, Halt, Gilan, Horace, and my newfound brother Will Treaty. I missed them all as they had helped me fit in with them. They had made me feel at home.
