"I don't know, James said to peel the potatoes for tomorrow's morning rush," you said, peeling the brown skin off the slimy potato's. 12:01 am, one minute after closing. At least once a week you and the cooks stayed after to clean and prep for the rest of the week, that was the down fall of working for a diner that stayed open til midnight.
"It just seems useless to peel God knows how.." you continue when you were interrupted by the door of the diner open up.
"Oh I'm sorry we're..." you said, looking up from peeling you 100th potato. You looked up to meet a young adult soaked head to toe in rain water.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, your sign was still on and I needed to get out of the rain." He said, opening the door to leave.
"It is coming down pretty hard isn't it," you said, looking out the big store front window. The rain was coming down absolutely insane. "Well, you might as well stay," you said, leaning against the inside of the counter. "You don't look like you're gonna mug me." You smile at the stranger. He looked pleasant, he had big, beautiful, brown eyes, brown hair that curled just at the ends, and a big smile. He was a little bit taller than you (bahaha not me, we all know I'm 5'9) and seemed polite.
You walked from behind the counter where you were peeling potatoes to seat him. "Thank you so much," he said, walking behind you to a booth right in front of the big picture window.
"No problem, that rain looks insane," you said, looking at the street lights light up the rain drops. "Anyway, what is a young kid like you doing out in downtown London at midnight," you ask, ushering him to sit in the booth.
"Oh nothing," he said, smiling at you. "What is a girl like you doing working in the middle of downtown London at midnight," he asked, sizing you up.
"Gotta pay for college somehow," you say to the stranger. "Now before I get back to work, would you like some water or something, coffee?" You ask the brunette.
"Coffee would be lovely, I have to get back to work soon."
"Oh God, did I just let a mafia man into the diner. James is gonna kill me if we get robbed, or who knows maybe you're gonna rob then kill me or worse kill me then rob me!" You said, putting your face into your hands.
"Darling," he breathily giggled, "I'm not here to harm you, I'm an actor. I had a night filming."
"Okay but how do I know you're not lying," you said, walking to get a his cup of coffee. "Is there anything I would have seen you in?"
"Um, I've been in this movie called The impossible with Naomi Watts," he said, watching you pour coffee from the other side of the counter.
"Interesting," you said, walking back to the booth. You placed the coffee in front of him. "Do you need cream or anything?"
"Can I get some milk and a little thing of sugar," he said, flashing a big smile, you had to admit this stranger was definitely cute.
"Fine," you said, joking rolling your eyes and walking back to the kitchen.
"Thank you so much," he said, as you placed the milk and sugar on the table. "Can I be honest with you?"
"Yeah, what's up?"
"Honestly, I didn't come in here to get away from the weather...I came in here looking for food. I saw that you were the only place with a light on at midnight and your sign was on..." he trailed on, holding on to the warm mug.
"Okay, you're kind of pleasant to be around, you make it not so lonely. I'll get you a menu." You said, walking to get a paper menu and silver ware.
