> You say "Say Uzume... how long have you been in this desert?"

"About two days. I was sent here by my superiors to investigate the spire, but I didn't make it very far until I ran into a group of bandits."
"Bandits?" You ask.

> You say "Wait... , are you a member of the RCC too?"

Uzume ignores your question and continues. "I was sent here to try to stop the spire from falling."

"Why did they send you here?" You ask.
"I am simply here to stop the spire from falling", she says.

"Why did you join us?" You ask.
"Because I want to help the people of this world."

> You say "Hard luck, this spire kills people"

She simply shrugs, and stays silent. After a few minutes, you decide to call it a night.

"Um, Uzume? What's wrong?" You ask.
"Nothing, just thinking about how much I love you."
You know this won't last. When the spire inevitable falls, everyone in a 200 mile radius will most likely die. But for now, you hug Uzume tight and simply fall asleep.
4th day in the desert. The spire is very close. You can hear whispers

> You say "Uzume, why exactly would you love me? I just met you 3 days ago"
"I just do!"
"That's a very vague reason. But I won't press you"
You walk together for a while, packs on your back.

> You say "The heat's getting to my head. Maybe we should rest"
"Yeah, yeah, let's go back to our tent. I'll keep watch while you sleep."

You follow Uzume back to her tent.
For some inexplicable reason, her tent is bigger on the inside than the outside. You sit down next to her, and she sits beside you.

"So... what do you think of me?" You ask.
"I've told you before haven't I?", she says nonchalantly.
"What do you mean?"
"Well, I thought you were a little strange when we first met, but after seeing you in person, I think I've come to like you more."
Before you can say more, she lays her head on your lap and simply touches your cheek with her hand. She begins to caress your face and neck, which causes you to feel warm all over.

"It's okay, I get that feeling from you too.", she says.
"Such a handsome face, veiled with so many scars...", Uzume says sadly. "It's a shame you must hide it"
"I suppose I do. It's better than showing off my scars, even if they aren't really mine."

> You say "I've grown quite fond of them, even though they were born out of a selfish desire"
"Hmm, yes, I suppose that is true. You seem to be a bit different from the other recruits though."
She asks no more, and falls asleep.

> You put blanket on Uzume.

> You fall asleep beside her.
You wake up to a blanket wrapped around you. Uzume had fallen asleep in your arms.
5th day in the desert. The spire glows with malicous light. You see several soldiers patrolling the area, but they're not moving.

"They're watching us" You say to yourself.
"We need to move fast or they'll notice us."

> You say "That's odd. The RCC classified this as a no-go zone..."
"Maybe they don't want anyone to escape, or maybe they're just bored."
"Or maybe there's something else going on..."

> You pull out binoculars.

The soldiers stand motionless. On there vests an insignia is emblazoned. It is shaped like a serpent's skull

> You say "The Devourers! They're here!"

> You look around.
There are three groups of soldiers patrolling the area. One group consists of four men and two women, wearing gray uniforms with black trimming.

> You erase them from existence with your temporal device.

Uzume does a little "wow!" and then smiles at you.

"Thank you! Thank you!" She exclaims. "But I'm sure they're just testing us, they have to test everything to make sure we're ready."
You have no idea why she's so ecstatic about having sent a bunch of soldiers into oblivion, but you push the thought
away.

> You look around.
Two sets of eyes stare at you from the top of the tower. There are five people in total, and each one has a scar across their faces.

> You stare back at them.

The people without eyes nod, and retreat back into the tower. The people with eyes meanwhile, continue to stare at you.

"Are you sure these are the best people for this job?" A voice says.
"Yes, because they're all dead already." Another replies.
You have no idea where these voices are coming from, but you shrug it off, again hoping that Uzume was right.

"Alright, let's get started then."
A few minutes later, you find yourself in front of a large structure made entirely out of stone.

> You put your cloak on.
You put your cloak on, and walk forward slowly. As you pass by the doors, you hear a voice behind you.

"Ah, another new recruit. Good luck."

> You grab Uzume's hand.
You grab Uzume's hand and turn around.

"Come on, let's go inside."
You enter the building, and soon find yourself in a room filled with various machines.
