Tank groaned as he pulled the knife from his leg and laid against the alley wall. Ambushed, he thought. I've been ambushed. Should have known he would send her after me.

He ripped off the scraps of shirt that hung from his body and threw them in a dumpster. At the moment, he didn't care what he looked like. He just needed to buy time and let his wound heal.

To his right, he could hear Garna approaching. He thought about the day that she stole the body of his friend, Rhia. Twice, he had her beaten. And every time, he would hesitate and she would capitalize and attack him.

He could see her shadow now. She was close. Too close for comfort. Too close for a surprise attack. If he made a wrong move, then she could easily kill him. He needed to be smart about this.

She stopped and pulled a knife from her belt. "Why hide, nebulan? I thought you were descended from warriors? Warriors stand and fight. Cowards run and hide."

That insult infuriated him, but he bit his tongue and clenched his fist. He took a deep breath and recollected himself. One wrong move, he reminded himself. One wrong move and it's all over. I can't let that happen.

Garna struck the blade against the wall, lighting up the alley with a splash of sparks. "Show yourself, you incompetent piece of filth."

Tank roared with rage and lashed out from behind the dumpster. Garna smiled and caught him by his throat. "You're pathetic. Just like your friends. Though I must say, this body has some benefits," she ignited her palm with a ball of hellfire. "Now, you get to burn. Say goodbye, Tank."

Tank closed his eyes and stabbed her in the gut with the knife. She dropped him and stepped back, clutching at her stomach. "You bastard. You're going to pay for that." She punched him in the face before driving two knives into his eyes. "Fall like your pathetic friends." She drove them deeper, spraying the alley wall with blue blood. Tank fell to his knees. "Lindsay, Rhia. I'm sorry. This is all my fault."

Garna grinned maliciously and drove a knife into his heart, then watched as his body slumped against the alley wall. "One down. Two to go."
