Garna stared at Sako through the glass window. "Can I ask you something?"

Sako nodded.

"What was your mother like? I know everything about your father. He's a legend where I come from. But I've never heard anything about his first wife. Your mother."

Sako watched as lightning sparked on her fingertips. "I don't remember a lot. But I do remember that she was kind. Firm, but kind. She and my father met when she found him unconscious in her rice field. Being generous like she was, she helped him, and eventually, they fell in love. That's all I can remember."

Garna laughed and tapped the glass. "You're lucky. You didn't have to see your mother die. I was forced to watch as mine was burned at the stake. People in that age were fools. My mother wasn't a witch as they thought. She was just more intelligent than my father. For that, they shunned her. It was that day that led me to the dark arts. When I turned to Armageddon for help. He offered to burn down the village and everyone in it if I agreed to be his bride. He gave me unimaginable power. I could control the darkness like paint on a brush."

"You're insane."

"Maybe I am. But if so, then that makes you crazy for listening to me."

Sako blasted the door with lightning, shocking Garna. She watched as she fell to the floor twitching. "Stupid bitch."
