Six months later:
Alex handed Lauren the hammer as he held the spike in place. "Alright, Lauren. Just watch where you swing that thing, alright?"
Lauren rolled her eyes. "Dad, I'm not a klutz. I know what to do."
Elizabeth threw some wood onto the campfire. "Any luck with the tent?" She asked.
Lauren drove the spike with one clean swing. "I did it, mom."
Alex looked around the tent at Emma, who was feeding their dog, Princess. "Don't put too much, Emma."
Emma dumped a portion of the bag into the bowl. "Why are we camping in the backyard, daddy? I thought we were going somewhere else."
Alex handed Lauren the last spike and approached his daughter. "It's family night, Emma. And it's your mommy's turn to choose. Plus, we weren't able to do this in the apartment, were we?"
Emma shook her head. "No. I guess not. Daddy, can you tell me the story again? The one about mommy saving your life?"
Alex smiled. "Of course, sweetie."
