in the past nine months, rosa and gina had had many conversations about kids. rosa said she'd wait until they were both ready and they were... but gina still didn't want to carry their kid.
'if you don't wanna, i'll do it,' rosa said one day out of nowhere as the two stood in the kitchen cooking dinner
'huh?'
'i wouldn't mind, i'd have you and iggy there. iggy's four, she can get herself dressed...' rosa paused, 'it's not that bad of an idea, is it?'
'you actually would?'
'yeh, anything for you.'
'but do you actually wanna or are you just doing it because i won't?'
'i mean obviously i'd prefer for you to, but you've carried two already. i can do this.'
gina wrapped her arms around her wife and smiled. 'i love you,' she said into rosa's shoulder
'i love you too gi,' rosa said as she smiled at how happy her wife was.
iggy ran in and reached up for the cookies, she could only reach the cookies, the freezer and the fruit bowl so the obvious choice was cookies.
'what do you think you're doing, cookie monster!' rosa said, pulling away from gina to pick iggy up
iggy laughed and squealed as rosa tickled her and gina watched them both. she couldn't help but think about how she should be holding their five month old baby. she didn't realise rosa looking over at her whilst still tickling iggy.
rosa sat iggy down on the counter, 'one cookie, okay? just one, dinner's gonna be ready soon.'
as iggy was occupied with the cookie jar, rosa walked over to gina and wrapped her arms around her.
'you okay?'
'yeh... i just feel like angel should be with us too.'
'they are with us baby; they're looking down on us, protecting us, making sure we're okay. nothing can change that and we're never gonna forget them.'
gina hadn't handled losing their angel baby as well as rosa had, which was to be expected of course. she'd often just think about how it would be different if angel was there right in that moment.
'we don't have to have another one if you're not ready, we don't ever have to.' rosa said, trying to comfort her wife.
'thank you,' gina said and she hugged rosa tighter
'for what? you're my wife.'
'everything.'
rosa smiled
'i love you so so much,' gina continued
'i love you too,' rosa said as she kissed gina's head
'enigma linetti-diaz, was that really one cookie?' gina said, looking back over at iggy
rosa took her down off the counter, 'go play for a little while and we'll make dinner, cookie monster,' she said whilst shaking her head and smiling.
iggy ran off to play as rosa turned back to gina.
gina looked at rosa and smiled
'what?' rosa said smiling back
'nothing, you're just perfect.'
rosa leaned in and kissed gina, 'you are so perfect.'
