Chapter 16 : "One Step Closer"

As soon as the meeting ended, everyone left to their cabins.

Gun and Saint were still awake, but Gulf was already fast asleep.

Both didn’t even bother sleeping early considering that their shift was only at noon and onwards at the moment.

“Were you behind the rotation changes?” Saint asked

“No, of course not” Gun replied

“Then why were you running from the Main Hall yesterday?”

“I was supposed to ask dad for help but when I got there, P’Mew was already there and they talked about Gulf”

“And then?”

“Dad shuffled the rotations because of the lurking rogues and I think he chose to include us three, for additional manpower I guess?” Gun concluded.

“But you know what?” Gun added

“What?”

“Dad purposely paired Gulf to P’Mew” Gun says with a playful smile ghosting his lips.

“Really?! Why?! Saint exclaimed

“Because he said only P’Mew is capable of protecting Gulf” Gun says proudly.

Saint squealed at that.

“I wonder what will happen to them tomorrow” Saint giggles.

“Let’s hope for the best” Gun chuckles

After about thirty minutes, the two finally decided to sleep and soon drifted to dreamland in their respective bedrooms.

Not long, Gulf’s alarm resonated inside the room. Successfully waking him up at the crack of dawn.

He groaned as he stretched his body.

The omega was about to drift to sleep once again, when suddenly Mew’s stoic face appeared in his head.

He jumped in bed, out of shock.

Finally remembering that Mew was dropping by their cabin any minute now.

He hurriedly got out of bed and washed his face, brushed his teeth, fixed his hair and soon changed into warmer clothes, knowing all too well that it’s still cold outside.

He settled with a thick sweater and some lose pajamas before a knock was heard.

He was quite shaken but soon regained his composure when a second knock was heard.

He took a deep breath before opening the door.

As soon as he opened the door, he was met by Mew’s poker face.

“G-good morning” Gulf stuttered as he closed the door behind him.

Mew gave a curt nod before turning on his back and started walking towards the still, dark forest considering that it’s only four o’clock in the morning.

Gulf followed behind, struggling to keep up with Mew because of how big the other’s steps were.

There was a deafening silence surrounding the two, but no one bothered to talk.

The air was indeed cold, but thankfully wolves are known to be warm.

But that doesn’t mean that the cold air wasn’t affecting Gulf.
