During the start of winter, Ellion and Alissa wrote to Grayson and Lucy that they would be visiting family in France, so if they were happy to, they would stay at Hogwarts for Christmas. Lucy didn't mind as much, because as it so happened, Draco and Hermione would also be staying during the winter break. Draco explained that Narcissa had written to him to say that his father would be far too busy to do anything for Christmas this year so he would probably have more fun staying at Hogwarts.

Before all the students went home for Christmas, Professor Lockhart organized a dueling club late one afternoon for all the second years. During which, Draco was offered to duel Harry. Lucy and Tina watched on as the two sent spells back and forth. Towards the end of the duel, Draco cast the spell 'Serpensortia', that conjured a live snake from the end of his wand. Professor Snape headed for the snake, about to get rid of it, when Professor Lockhart cast a spell that caused the snake to fly upwards. When the snake landed it only became more aggravated.

Lucy and the other second year students watched on as Harry began communicating with the snake. She turned to Hermione who had the same surprised expression on her face.

Afterwards in the Slytherin common room, the second years were discussing the fact that Harry Potter was a parselmouth. He quickly became the talk of the school.

"That was crazy." Lucy said to Draco, in utter disbelief about the whole thing.

"Tell me about it." He answered, shaking his head.

"Did anyone else know about this?" Lucy asked, looking around at the others they were sitting with, each of them shook their heads.

The next day, whispers began circling that another student had been attacked. A Hufflepuff boy by the name of Justin Fitch-Fletchley, as well as one of the Hogwarts ghosts, Nearly Headless Nick. Lucy started to worry as there would suddenly be smaller numbers of students during the winter break.

Draco tried his best to distract her.

"Let's go." Draco said, flipping his potions book shut and getting to his feet. They had spent some time in the library together that afternoon, finishing up the last of their work before classes finished.

"I still don't understand how you make it seem so easy." Lucy sighed. Draco had been trying to help Lucy with one of the potions they had learnt the week before.

"That's because I'm smarter than you." Draco declared and Lucy shot him a confused look.

"Not likely." She retorted, packing up her things and following him out of the library.

Tina had gone home for the break, as well as the rest of the second year Slytherin girls, so Lucy was able to spend time with Draco without being punished for it.

During the Christmas eve feast Draco and Lucy headed back to the Slytherin common room early, Crabbe and Goyle stayed behind to keep eating.

"Honestly, I don't know how those two can eat so much." Lucy joked to Draco as they made their way back to the common room.

"It beats me." He replied, laughing along.

When they got to the common room, they sat up at one of the tables against the wall, a chessboard sat on the table. "Let's see how good you've gotten." Lucy teased as she and Draco began playing.

The game didn't last long, and Draco proved his knowledge by beating Lucy. Lucy gracefully accepted losing, while Draco enjoyed boasting about being the winner.

As they were laughing, Draco frowned, looking towards the common room entry.

"What's wrong?" Lucy asked, following his gaze over her shoulder.
