Hae-won's pov
After we reached Aunt's house. At first I couldn't believe my eyes, I was standing I front of such a big bungalow. Ohh my poor eyes!!!! It's so big and the gates are also too big. A girl who lived in a house of two rooms and considered it as heaven will definitely get shocked seeing such a big house. The affluent people in our village some had big houses. It was one story house..with an additional half story and a slopped roof. This bungalow included a dormer window and veranda. It is made on low ground and was surrounded by trees, shrubs and fences. As we moved inside..it was so large inside out. A big living room, a perfect place for whole family to unite and gossip, a separate dining room infront of a big kitchen...it was a modular one though with a chimney. There were stairs on both right and left sideways...for going upstairs. The upper floor was covered with five rooms. These houses in cities are so well built...furnished and the walls were painted in purple and green. The ceiling had chandeliers hanging..which gave the whole house such a beautiful look. While I was getting ashtonished by the house beauty..aunt disturbed me.
"Hae-won we have a separate quarter for the servants over here. But I have asked one of the people in our house to clean the guest room. So go there and change yourself. Then we will talk about your work." She smiled at me.
"Aunt can I stay in the servant quarter thankyou for offering me such a big space but please..I am not habitual of big rooms and soft beds." I insisted. She seemed to feel tensed at first but later agreed. After assuring her that I am okay being in servant quarter I left for my room. Taking out my full sleeves red t-shirt and long skirt with black stockings I went inside for a bath. Even though this was servant quarter it was quite clean. A single bed and cupboard was in room. A window which opens to the garden. And this bathroom was also clean just the walls had cracks..and the floor was made of grey mortar. It felt like noone had been in this room from a long time. A mirror was also in bathroom. A proper wash basin, with toothpaste, soap and shampoos. I brushed my teeth..and while bathing all the mud paste got washed off. And I could see my clean and fair skin again. After I completed bathing ...I stood up to dress and took a glance in the mirror. I indeed am very beautiful..but see what's the use , I have to hide it always. Then I dressed up quickly...covering myself and apply the mud on me all over again to my visible body parts. And began to look again a girl with brown color.
As I came out of my room. I saw aunt busy in some sort of magazine while sipping orange juice.
"Aunt tell me my job..so that I can start up with" I smiled at her.
"Daughter before that tell me..at what are you good at?" She smiled asking me my favorite household chores.
"Aunt I can do cleaning..washing..even cooking. Though I love cooking..but I can do all small and big house chores of this house."
"But today's lunch has been prepared already. The cooks have already prepared ONNURIYE DONKATSU(pork cutlet) , JJAMBBONG (seafood noodles) , DDEOKBOKKI ( rice and fish cakes in chilli sauce) along with KIMCHI. Only a sweet dish is left....can you make one" she asked me.
"Sweet dish...yeah I know one of the sweet dish. It's very tasty and yummy. My eomma used to make it on every big and small occasions..as it was the only dish which were in our budget. But it was very delicious" I smiled at aunt.
"You are making my mouth water now only tell me...what sort of dish is it..it's name?" She questioned me smiling.
"It is called BUKKUMI. Bukkumi is a pan-fried tteok made with glutinous rice flour or sorghum flour. It is a flat half-moon shaped cake filled with white adzuki bean paste or mixture of toasted and ground sesame seeds, cinnamon powder, and sugar or honey. The color varies from white to yellow, pink, or dark green. I hope you all will like it..I will try my best to prepare it very well" I assured aunt about the best sweet dish I ever ate.
"Ohk....go in the kitchen. All the ingrediants are already there. If you couldn't find just ask Yunjin she will help you." Aunt smiled and got busy again in her books.
I went in the kitchen and arranged all the materials required at one place with help of Yunjin. The ingredients are:
1/2 cup of mungbeans , pinch of kosher salt, 2-3 tablespoons of honey or sugar, a can of sweet red beans, 1 cup glutinous rice flour, extra rice for dusting, 1jujube, seed removed, rolled and cut into thin slices, pumpkin seeds..cooking oil and sesame oil.
First I made the mung beans paste. By heating it for five minutes and later added honey and mashed it well. Then I prepared the dough..by mixing rice flour, cosher salt and hot water. Kept it in plastic for few minutes...then kneed it well. Later made it into ten to twelve balls and then rolled them out in disc form( like chapatis). Later I heated a nonstick pan with the help of sesame oil. I swirled the pan to mix the oil well. Then I started to put the dough disks on pan to cook them until it's edges become translucent. Then I flipped them and added one mung bean paste ball in centre and scooped two three tablespoon of sweet red bean paste. Then fold the disk with help of a spatula...in moon shape and cook it well for one minute. Cook until it turns little crunchy and a little brown. And then I did the same with other disks and bean paste. And after finishing this garnished it's too with jujube and pumpkin seeds. And it's done.
"Woow eonni...you are so good at it. Will you teach me cooking" Yunjin smiled at me.
"Ofcourse honey..but first go and lay the tables while I do the cleaning." I smiled and she went to lay the table. And as I turned around to clean ..the slab..I saw someone standing facing the refrigerator...and I hid myself behind the cupboard.
"Who is he.......!!!!!!!!!!!!"
