Thomas might have been 16 years old but he was a very important figure, he was more charismatic and friendlier than other nobles. He wasn't spoiled, or made fun of others because of their status. Keep in mind he wasn't perfect but he wasn't the worst. He was a skilled warrior and magician as well, he had a sword that measured about 3 feet long, with the blade being 2 feet long and the hilt being 1 foot long. It was a one-sided sword made of carbon-steel. The cross guard was curved and seemed to be made of gold. The handle had a ruby-like texture that was surprisingly comfortable. At the bottom was a pear-shaped pommel which seemed to be hollow and have claw-like pieces to allow for a spherical item to be placed inside of it and to hold it firmly. He would put marbles in the empty area to make the sword look more complete when he was younger, yet it never felt like it was.
He had also learned a decent amount of flame magic. He could create sparks and small fires from his hand. He was mostly self taught as his parents disapproved of him learning fire or any type of magic. They claimed that he would rely on it too much and that it would make him weak. He practiced with a book he found in a hidden library. He would read it after his parents and siblings fell asleep. The book was eventually found and taken away from him. To this day he still doesn't know how the book was found or who found it.
He was on his way to Switzerland, the most recent country to be recognized. It was rather easy for other nations to recognize it, as it never engaged in wars, was barely ever hostile, and most importantly, had a Gear in its territory. The countries surrounding it had no interest it attacking it, including the French Empire and the Germanic Aristocratic empire. It didn't have many resources, was in a difficult place to invade, and was very secure. It even had bridges, and railroads meant to explode on any invaders.
The gear however, was the main reason no one invaded them. It controlled the aspect of joy. Leaders of nations unanimously agreed to keep the gear safe and protected. However, once the gear in South America was almost destroyed, security was amplified and the Wing of Chaos, the ones trying to destroy the gears, were deemed as a terrorist organization, with the Wing of Order being founded as a counter measure.
We now arrive to the present where Thomas is headed towards Switzerland. Fortunately, he was allowed to travel through the French Empire, unfortunately, the railroad bridge for the train he was traveling in is torn apart by an explosion and the train falls to a valley covered in trees. He lands far from the train but miraculously survives and falls unconscious with severe injuries.
