Chapter 18:

30 6 35

Emica's POV:

I was finally getting accustomed to all the things jumping at us. It had taken awhile, but now I could at least help a little.  The monsters invested the rest of the hallway. There were several goblins, bats, and a few more skeletons; Len killed the skeletons by knocking their skulls off. It was hard for me to even look at them without screaming and running away.

Len and I reached a round room, which lit up as we entered. A large door stood opposite to us.

"The boss door." Len smirked. "And with no Kit in sight."

"What does that mean?" I asked quizzically.

"It means if he doesn't get here in ten more minutes, I win be default." He grinned and sheathed his sword.

I would gladly leave here as soon as possible. This was my second time in a temple and it was the first time I had ever gotten this far. "How do you plan on killing Argos?" I wondered aloud.

Len sat down against the wall. "Find his weak point, and hit it whenever I can."

I sat down as well. "That seems like an extremely rash and reckless strategy."

"It usually works. You know, most of the time." He smiled wryly.

I took out my loose ponytail and began twisting and playing with the ribbon. A thought asked me why I always wore a ponytail when I hate having my hair up. I couldn't answer it of course, so I began having a conversation in my head.

"What are you thinking about?" Len inquired after a funny thought had made me suppress a giggle.

"I'm not quite sure. I'm not really thinking of anything." I answered, stretching my hair ribbon for the tenth time. I looked up from my ribbon and met Len's locked gaze. I suddenly remembered he had said I looked pretty with my hair down, so I quickly, (and messily) put my hair back in it's ponytail.

A sudden rumbling sound caused Len and I to jump to our feet and ready our weapons. The floor shook and a whole section of wall opened up. Through it came Kit and Myra.

"YUE!" Myra screamed and grabbed me in a hug. "Oh my gosh, I never want to do this again. And I finally understand the practicality of your style. My long dress almost killed me multiple times."

"How long have you been here?" Kit groaned at the sight of us.

"About nine minutes." Len grumbled.

Kit smirked at Len and gestured towards the boss door. "Wimps first?"

"Well I was going to go first but if you want to go THAT bad, fine by me I guess." Len shrugged and stepped to the side, to which Kit frowned. He was used to being the sarcastic one.

I took a step towards the door, but Len grabbed my wrist. "What are you doing?"

"Someone has to go first." I shrugged, although on the inside I was terrified.

"Oh no, you are NOT going in there." Len shook his head.

"Yes I am." I pulled my wrist free and went over to the door.

Kit ran ahead of me. "Sure you can come, but I'll go first."

Myra reached for my hand. She was shaking as we walked together through the door.

As soon as we stepped into the room each torch was lit with a greenish blue fire. The torches gave a faint, eery light to the enormous square room. In ever corner there was a square pit that fell deep into darkness. I guessed it was a far drop, probably enough to kill you.
