"Flame and Ash"
"When a flame burns, it starts off small.
Barely strong, barely tall,
Dimly flickering, threatening to fall.
But with each wood, sturdy strong,
Something she could rely, something to hold on.
Something to keep her burning,
Rising brighter, she burns tall.
And when it burns, it burns bright,
So bright it lights the dark of sleepless nights,
A constant warmth, company, in the dark of times.
But wood never lasts,
Some die, some replaced, some leave, gone fast.
Some you can't rely on, some who'd let her burn,
Burning till there's nothing left,
Nothing left to hold on.
And in the end, Ashes fall.
Now gray, small, remnants of something great... gone.
Because of some dimwit wood (read:pricks),
Who missed, failed to keep her flame.
Ashes fall,
Faded and gray,
Gone the bright speck,
That lit up sleepless nights.
But in the midst of her fall,
A small, sizzling warmth- hope.
Specks of tiny embers,
Wishing for a wind, a breath of fresh air,
That would strengthen that warmth,
Brighten its light, ignite a spark.
But it couldn't last without something to hold on to.
Something that would keep her flame high once more.
That something- that one piece of wood-
Unbeknownst to her, could just be in reach.
When the day's gray, never forget when it was bright,
When friends leave, never forget the ones that stayed,
When words hurt, never forget the things that matter,
When trust is broken, never forget the ones that didn't shatter.
When you feel weak, that's okay, Ashes fall,
But there's always another day, one when the flame will stand tall.
It's a matter of letting go of what threatens to blow your light,
And holding onto what matters, what keeps you burning bright.
She is a flame, waiting for a brighter day,
Waiting to burn bright through the dark of sleepless nights.
Looking for something- someone she could hold onto,
And one day she'll see, it's always been in her reach.
Always there, keeping her aflame."
