"Why are you being so bitter?"
"Did you not see what happened in there?"
"What happened to no fucks?""Well that went about as well as any Hargreeves' family function," Allison said with a sarcastic raise of her eyebrows, disrupting the suffocating silence as they waited for the elevator to reach the bottom floor.
Elena didn't know what to say. She'd only ever been to one Hargreeves' family function before and she had been covered in blood and unconscious. So yeah, they were about the same level of dysfunction.
Klaus grumbled something incoherent as he slumped to the floor of the elevator. Elena wasn't sure if he was drunk, high or facing brain trauma from the apparent seizure he'd just had that no one else was worried about. Everyone else was in their own bubble of anxiety induced trauma. No one looked at anyone else except for Elena. And she just didn't know what to do.
"I feel so violated," Klaus choked out, grabbing onto Elena's pant leg and pleading up at her with wide, vulnerable eyes and a hand grasping at his throat. She looked briefly around the elevator for everyone else's reaction but no one so much as moved. She looked back down at Klaus who was repeatedly opening and closing his fists at Elena like a baby. She hoped this was something drug related and not a side effect of his seizure. She crouched down on the elevator floor and began checking Klaus for injuries hoping that by having something to do she'd feel less uncomfortable in the tense silence. She didn't.
Klaus didn't have any obvious injuries. There were no cuts or bruises but he kept complaining his head hurt and his whole body felt violated. He kept occasionally shooting death glares over his shoulder at thin air. Elena really hoped he didn't have a brain injury. She didn't know if her powers were good enough to heal that.
"Congratulations," Allison said with a smile that looked too happy to be real after what they'd all just gone through. Elena looked up at saw her staring over her shoulder at Luther who looked just as surprised.
"For what?"
"I think that's the first time ever that you've stood up to dad," Allison explained, shrugged her shoulders and turned back around. Luther jutted out his chin as if to say "Huh, yeah, I guess you're right", and the stony silence descended again. That was until Diego broke it with a snide comment.
"So much for having my back in there," he grumbled without looking back at anyone. Elena stopped healing Klaus to sigh deeply through her nose. She squeezed her eyes shut, drew in a deep breath and tried not to punch him.
