"Jesus!" Elena couldn't help but exclaim as she helped Klaus back to his, "This is your place?" She asked, dumb struck. It was a mansion. Klaus had directed her to a fucking mansion! How did he have a mansion? This couldn't be his place. Was she helping him break into some random rich person house? There was no way he lived here!

Klaus nodded drunkenly into Elena's shoulder to answer her question.

"Okay," she sighed and opened the door, which was conveniently already open. Maybe it really was Klaus's, he seemed like the kind of person who would forget to lock his front door.

"Will you read me a bedtime story?" Klaus asked with a tipsy half smile as Elena managed to lie him down on the couch.

"How old are you?" she teased.

"Seven."

Elena tried not to laugh but it was difficult.

"Will you at least stay?" Klaus whined, looking up at Elena with his bottom lip stuck out.

"Sorry, Klaus," Elena sighed, "You've got Ben for company," she added trying to console him.

"He scares me," Klaus pouted, "He violated me."

"Right..." Elena said, watching in confusion and Klaus hugged himself.

"Please stay?" he whimpered again as Elena turned to leave.

"Sorry, Klaus. I've got a friend to drop in on."

Elena returned to her mother's hotel. She hadn't told Luciana that she was her daughter from the future – of course she hadn't, that would be crazy! And Luciana was not her mother yet, Elena wouldn't be born for a number of years. But it was still her mother. And she'd been through so much lately. She just wanted her mum.

"Elena," Luciana said, surprised to have opened the door to find Elena there. "Ay mija!" She said and Elena almost cried at her mother calling her mija again, but she knew it was just a phrase people said, "You look awful."

It was true. Elena felt her throat tighten but she suppressed it. She wasn't going to cry.

"Come," Luciana said, her hand snatching the air between her and Elena, "You need a drink. Edouardo!" She called through the door behind her into her apartment, "Don't wait up! We're going to be out for a long time. Come," she took Elena by the hand and did not let go until they were sat down in a bar with drinks in both her hands.

"So," Luciana said, having downed her martini and swiftly picked up the second, "What's on your mind, ilirona?"

"Do I look that bad?" Elena asked, dabbed at her eyes in case she had been crying without realising. It wouldn't be the first time.
