BEEP BEEP BEEP
(Y/N) groaned as he slapped the snooze button on his alarm clock. He sighed as he rubbed the tiredness out of his eyes and rolled out of bed. He stretched as he inhaled the musky air of his motel room. He pulled back the curtains and winced at the flash of sunlight. "Another day another dollar, I guess" (Y/N) joked sadly to himself "If I actually had a dollar to spare"
(Y/N) had spent all his money renting his motel room for the month. He had to haggle a lot just to get a cheap room, and even then, it cost him every cent he had. If he was going to keep living in Beach City, he needed a job and fast. (Y/N) got dressed, brushed his teeth, and left his motel room, locking the door behind him. He decided to get a lay of the land and its residence to help in his search. (Y/N) enjoyed the calm coastal town much more than the loud and angry noises of Empire City. This was paradise compared to the packed city streets. The environment of the city was just not good to him. The loud noises, the packed sidewalks, and the occasional homeless man on the street corner. These things were one of the many reasons (Y/N) had left Empire City in the first place. But even (Y/N)'s newfound happiness couldn't make him money, otherwise, he would be a billionaire.
After hours of searching, and the setting sun indicating that he'd been looking for a job all day, he decided that enough was enough and that he'd try again in the morning. He walked down to the boardwalk and approached the beach. He lied down on the sandy surface and looked up at the clear sky. He inhaled the salty ocean air and closed his eyes as he tried to relax. But how could he? (Y/N) was flat broke and jobless. He had rented the motel room, which he currently calls home, for a month. Once that time expires, he either pays for another month or leaves. However, seeing as though he had no money so the former can be a possibility, the latter was his only option. What would happen then? (Y/N) didn't even want to think about it. His oldest brother, Wes, had warned him about this, but (Y/N) didn't care. He let others forge his path in that bleak city for far too long. This made his thoughts wander towards his other brother, Joseph, the only family member that supported him. Maybe he was wrong to do so. At least then he wouldn't have the pressure of homelessness riding on his shoulders. It was like he was in debt, the feeling annoyed him to great lengths.
(Y/N)'s thoughts, however, were interrupted by an instinctual feeling of being watched. He opened his eyes and saw a rather small boy who looked no older than 12, staring down at him. He had black puffy hair and wore a red shirt with a star on it, blue jeans, and sandals. The boy was smiling at (Y/N) which made him a little uncomfortable. "Kid, what are you doing?" (Y/N) asked in an irritated manner.
"You look like you needed someone to talk to," Said the boy "I'm Steven by the way"
"Look, you seem nice and all," sighed (Y/N), "but didn't anyone ever tell you not to talk to strangers"
"Yeah, but you just seem like your having a rough day"
"Preaching to the choir"
Steven sat down next to (Y/N), and put on a comically serious face. "Talk to me"
"Yeah right," said (Y/N) laughing. But Steven didn't move. This made (Y/N) feel awkward, but strangely enough, compelled to tell the kid about his problems. The fact that Steven didn't just up and leave proved that. (Y/N) did as Steven instructed, ready to see what the kid had in store for him. "Alright kid you win," said (Y/N), now taking Steven seriously. "I'm flat broke, jobless, and living in a cheap motel room"
